YEAHHH... glad this thread got resurrected. That NGC "Skipping through the night" is EXACTLY the kind of schitt I love. the Christian song is pretty nice too. Can you fix that Duncan Browne link? I slept on almost all of the earlier mp3 links too... if anybody can reup any of that stuff too it would be appreciated
And while I'm on the subject, on that Smashbredrens porn mix now on sale at the Strut Shop (that mix is btw), does anyone know what the track is where dude is singing something like "beautiful scarlet, summer's really gonna hurt you" or some schitt? I may even have that record, I just can't think of what it is. I love that kinda schitt. THANKS IN ADVANCE
Rare Bird.
Okay, right... I thought i had that schitt. That's the one with the drumbreak intro, correct? I'm gonna pull it out right now
btw, the version of beautiful Scarlet that i was actually thinking about is by Capability Brown
Aye, sounds like Beautiful Scarlet by Rare Bird off their self titled lp on Charisma (good stuff)
I'm glad this thread brought up that track as I didn't realise I had it and I've been listening to that mix a lot recently. Typically I've just started to pack records for a house move and that LP has ended up in one of the boxes
Just bought the Beast LP recently and Down By The River (not Neil Young) has a real nice summer pop psych sound to it...Summertime rip-off but in a good way.
some pretty wimpy musics listed here...if you listened to my radio show today that I posted about, I played some more of the tougher strains of psych pop: Terry Reid, The Rockin' Vickers, the Birds(Ron Wood's band, not the Byrds), The Sorrows, O Bando, Rupert's People, Gianni Pettiani and the Juniors, Gli Spetri...

But the guy did ask for POP-psych, so the "wimpy musics" kinda come with the territory.
According to legend, Raiders' lead singer Mark Lindsay wanted to keep pace with the Beatles, Stones, etc. and get with the psychedelic times, but Paul Revere wasn't hearing it; he wanted to hold on to the 12-year-old consumer's dollar. So he compromised with these poppish psych LP's, although if Lindsay had his way, he would have gone a little farther around the bend. Which he did for real on 1970's Collage album, but by that time their bubblegum image was chiseled in stone and the hippies unfortunately didn't want to know.
Their loss. Some of the best pop-psych was made by Top 40 AM bands trying to "hippen up" their image (also see: Monkees'"Porpoise Song" and "Daily Nightly," as well as Tommy James & the Shondells' albums Crimson & Clover and Cellophane Symphony - not good enuff to play all the way through, but when they're good, they're really good).
Is that guy Ironfeet around? I believe he made that "Cool, Calm, and Collected" mix. The pysch-pop-blue-eyed-soul section of it was really good (along with the rest). ...I'd love a few IDs on some of the songs.
"Let me hear you laugh / Let me see you smile / Let me hear it loud / Cryin's not yr style" (female vox)
And after that, and right before "Bubbles" with the killer horns and birds chirping
"I've got to find a new way / got to clear up my mind" "Someone take me to a place where a man can lie down with a smile on his face" "No more troubles or sorrow / now the soul will be free"
And maybe this is a bit more bubblegummy, but Lee Mallory's "That's the Way it's Gonna Be"
some pretty wimpy musics listed here...if you listened to my radio show today that I posted about, I played some more of the tougher strains of psych pop: Terry Reid
I SO couldn't get into this guy...that Terry Reid compilation that came out two years ago or so sounded like bad classic rock that was left behind for a reason.

his cover of donovan's super lungs is amazing...ill post it a bit later
and as far as the "wimpy" tag i assigned earlier...I didnt mean wimpy in the sense of too gentle sounding, or too clean and not loud...I meant wimpy as in song writing, playing...something can be gentle as newborn kitten and still not be wimpy.
The Match- A New Light (RCA)1969... Nice vocal pop lp a la Free Design. Has a nice cut of 'Where Do I Go' from Hair and a few other moments of goodness.
"Where do I go from hair" would've been a good track title.

That whole LP with that track on it is pretty solid, and I generally do not like their stuff, except this one.
very overlooked in terms of pop-psych-yness

on Red Lady, for those unfamiliar with it, here ya go.
When the snare & bass kick in with the vocals its just
& 'Excerpt From A Teenage Opera' (great) fame.
He never really got his solo stuff off the ground, even with stuff like this. Brilliant.
