Has this been covered here already? I need recommendations (preferably stuff I can download illegally- I'm not trying to be like actually out getting my hands dirty tryin to find the original vinyl or anything ). Pop psych has been my thing for many a year, there's a whole gang of it out there if you really want to get deep into it- I've gotten into it but never like crazy crazy deep, so I need more. The real hot schitt only, though, not every cotdamn pop psych turd that's ever been recorded. And while I'm on the subject, on that Smashbredrens porn mix now on sale at the Strut Shop (that mix is btw), does anyone know what the track is where dude is singing something like "beautiful scarlet, summer's really gonna hurt you" or some schitt? I may even have that record, I just can't think of what it is. I love that kinda schitt. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Rare Bird.
Is that a cover of the Swegas tune (they did one also that is superduperdope), or did Swegas cover this one?
And yeah that tune is noyce.

was this later re-released on Probe? or is that just another Rare Bird LP?
I have seen other covers for it as well.
EDIT: Looks like it is on Probe too

oh shit thanks. ok i have that then and its GREAT. i knew those lyrics were familiar, but when you said it was on Charisma i was like HUH? i like the Charisma cover better though.
Any examples of what you're looking for?
As we've proven in the past, everytime we start a psych thread on Soulstrut, seems like no two people agree on what psychedelia actually is...
But you said POP-psych, and I'm thinking you mean bands like the Merry-Go-Round on A&M, or the Cryan Shames on Columbia (particularly the Scratch In The Sky and Synthesis albums)...psychedelia with a poppish, Beatlesque sheen. Dunno if I'm on the mark, but that's what I thought of when I saw the title header.
Philmore Lincoln
Donovan
The Poppy Family
You might also want to try the bands Sagittarius and Millennium. And, believe it or not, the Bee Gees (from the 1967-69 era).
Okay, right... I thought i had that schitt. That's the one with the drumbreak intro, correct? I'm gonna pull it out right now
someone said its pop psych. its nice
i got the mp3s if you want it
holla
Yah, I know it's hard to pinpoint exactly what you mean when you start talking about psych. There's a comp out called Fading Yellow, it has a lot of the kinda stuff I'm speaking about. But yeah, some of the groups mentioned so far in this thread would fall under the type of music I'm looking for. But I would really rather know particular songs or even albums that are recommended rather than just saying this group or that group, A lot of these groups may only have one song out of fifty that are truly BANGIN'.The Rare Bird "Beautiful Scarlet" track I mentioned is a good example of what I like, even though Rare Bird probably isn't really a pop psych band per se.
Here are a few titles that I pulled out of my arse without dwelling on it for too long:
Ronnie Bird "Raining In The City"
Richard Twice "If I Knew You Were The One"
National Gallery "Diana In The Autumn Wind" (as heard on the Soulman "Neva Stop Diggin'" cd on sale NOW at the soulstrut shoppe )
Rationals "Ha Ha" and The Cyrkle "She Was Here" (as heard on the "Coolin'" cd )
The Lamp Of Childhood "First Time, Last Time" (version of a song that was also recorded by Clydie King)
The Left Banke "My Friend Today"
There's a whole lot of other examples, but that's kinda the vibe I'm trying to catch. Holla.
Yeah, hook ya man up, Lumin! Thanks.
Grapefruit "around"
Emitt Rhodes?
zig-zag people take bubblegum music underground
generation gap maybe?
ahh - i was wondering what that was ever since Diplo used it.
I was also wondering about the Probe thing as well - looks like a different cover too.
Fargo on RCA
Tommy James shit
East Side kids on UNI
Free Design
Strawberry alarm clock
and i'd called Rare bird more progressive rock shit pop-psych
how is this? there's been a sealed copy sitting for $20 nearby forever...
YESSSSSSS! I push this song on everyone - I just put an
MP3 of it on Wax**ermy last week, which was promptly ignored
The LP by "Jameson" entitled Color Me In on Verve is good
stuff, I have MP3's (a bit rough vinyl source) that I have posted
on here before, and could re-post if you want. It was prouced by
Curt Boettcher, a name to look for on pop LP's when seeking out
psychedelic touches...
I would also recommend The Bubble Gum Machine LP on Senate,
although I would have to assume the best track on there, "I Wonder,"
was on a World of Beats tape years before I ever owned the LP...
Like most 60's music, alot of the best stuff is on 45-only. I've
found some good pop-psych stuff on White Whale, B.T. Puppy and Smash...
if I can dig some stuff out, I'll post a few groups/titles.
couple good comps here. particularly this:

The Match- A New Light (RCA)1969... Nice vocal pop lp a la Free Design.
Has a nice cut of 'Where Do I Go' from Hair and a few other moments of goodness.
The Fireballs- Come On React (Atco). Has a dope cut
of Get Out Of My Life Woman.
If i remember correctly they are both from 1969.
I'm sure this is of no use to Phill, but I just love this track, thought it may be new to somebody.
Free Design - Make the madness stop
The Association - Birthday
