HeyLate notice but I only found out myself last night.Betty Harris is performing TONIGHT Friday the 23rdat Johnny D's in Davis Sq, Somerville, MA.Every review I have heard about her comeback (after30 years in retirement!) has said she is incredible...Look for me in a collared black long sleeve shirt anddark jeans and I'll buy you a beer!www.johnnyds.com

Betty rocked it in a tassled evening gown and brought
the fire - what she may be losing in voice she made up
for with personality, telling quick tales between songs
about the old days and setting up songs with stories of
long lost love. The ballads killed it more than the bumpers,
but most everything was slamming. 1st set was much better than
the 2nd, even though the better songs were in the second - she seemed
tired in the 2nd set and the chemistry with the band seemed to fade.
Still, seeing Betty Harris sing "Cry To Me" live is a definite highlight
of recent memory for me, a moment of true beauty.
After I typed that, the rain stopped and heat came on and I ended up in
a white short-sleeve shirt, so I hope nobody was looking for me...
Were any of you heads there? I really hope the crew of 3 young dudes
that kept yelling out "Break In the Road" like "Freebird" at a Lynyrd
Skynyrd show weren't from here...please! Strangely enough, "Break..." was
the lowpoint of the show, as it seemed unrehearsed and Betty kept singing
at the wrong parts...that's a damn tough song to sing, I would bet - all
those syncopated changes? Yikes!
if i ever get my ass in gear i would love to have her on
my radio show.
