for me...Barbara and Brenda "lets get together" on Avanti. I am gonna wear this little styrene thing out. Great early soul...really great.

    Super Grown 'n' Sessy Soul LP from 1987. I recently purchased this after staying away from it for a long time due to the late recording date and was surprised to find just how fantastic this album is. Yes, DX7's and Smooth Sax are present, but they are fortunately offset by live drums/rhythm guitar and EXTREMELY strong songwriting (Garry Glenn is probably most known for composing the Anita Baker standard "Rapture").

    Lately I've been playing this one on repeat:



    Had it for a long while, listened to it here and there without it really sinking in, and now all of a sudden it has snuck up on me in a major way. I can't get enough of it. I can say now that this is one of last years most underrated albums.

    The US issue is actually the only one I ever see. I rarely see Uk press (which is considered to be the OG) but I'm not sure if it's that rare. But I don't come across it.

    All her reprise albums are more or less worth checking but I think this one and "Heart Strings" stand as her best.

    I can't get enough of this strutter-produced artifact. The female vocal number on here gets played every night before I go to sleep. Hauntingly beautiful.

    I just picked up this album today. It's Swedish 60s band The Tages (whom I've never heard) after they changed their name in 1969. I'm really digging its "Badfinger-meets-baroque pysch with funky touches" sound, as they were adept at compact pop tunes as well as sweeping orchestral epics.



    Here's a clip of the most dancefloor-friendly pop track "I Pick Up The Bus."

    people have mentioned the album to me (hi AP) but I've yet to see a copy pop up in LA.

    Something doesn't compute... if this is a record that's common as dirt in the UK why is it that mostly UK folks buy this record (stateside) for the exhorbitant price of 20 USD?

    "Common as dirt" might be a slight exaggeration. It shows up regularly, but it's one of those records that doesn't hang around for long when it does - people tend to scoop it up pretty quick; more so nowadays, I'd imagine, given the trend towards folky/singer-songwriter shit. Great as it is, I'd be loath to pony up $20 for it, because the most I've seen it go for over here is ??15 - it's usually priced in the ??8/??10 range. I picked up a mint copy for about ??2 six years ago, after having made do with a beat-up, sleeveless copy for years.
