Isley Bros. "Baby Makin' Music"

I'm sitting in my office listening to the latest offering from the Isley Bros. and debating with a co-worker whether their most recent albums ("Mission to Please", "Eternal", "Body Kiss" & "Baby Makin' Music") can compete with their classic material. Personally, I've enjoyed a lot of the material from the last four albums and find it interesting that they've been able to stay relevant when most of their counterparts from the 60's, 70's and 80's have fallen off. I wouldn't say any of their recent work will have the staying power of 'Between the Sheets', 'Choosey Lover', 'Make Me Say It Again', etc., but I'd like to know what the Strut Community thinks. On a side note, why is R. Kelly the "go-to" producer for such artists as the Isley Bros and Charlie Wilson?

I would have to credit this to his dedicated market research in certain demographics.

I haven't fully investigated any of the Isley LP's after "Mission To Please" (which I enjoyed a bit when it was first released), but I am of the opinion* that these newer albums are not true IB works as they were, for the most part, written by outside producers. The ol' 70's Isleys (my personal favorite period) were a self-contained unit who performed and wrote most of their own material.

    *jus' my opinion.

The Isley Brothers are Ron and the Aurrah now!

I wouldn't go out of my way to check out one of the newer albums but I wouldn't be averse to it either...

This reminds me of a thread I've been wanting to start for awhile now but haven't cared enough to actually post: "OLD R&B SINGERS WHO SING ABOUT YOUNG THINGS". There are a number of them out there.

Besides Mr. Biggs and Charlie Wilson, who else would you put in that category Soulman?

I've heard a number of them over the past few years... other than the dudes you mentioned, another one that comes to mind is The Ojay's "Let's Ride". That's actually a pretty dope song IMO, but homie is on there singin' about drivin' his six, rockin' his jewels and having his tool or some such schitt. I'm sorry, but I'm just like... dog, you're 65. What are you doing???

Personally, I've enjoyed a lot of the material from the last four albums

All 4 albums have 3-4 songs that are incredible. As whole albums their shakey.

Baby Makin Music got some jointz. Dont sleep.

I was gonna create an Isley Bros. appreciation post.......

I think the quality of their later albums is undisputeable although some tracks are quite uninspiring but yet better than plenty of new soul that i in general have a quiet bleak view of..

Although i must say that "best friend" (remix) track Ronald isley did with Kelly Price and R Kelly is one of the highlights of the 90s soulvise..

Appreciation post for the isleys? Will easily be a 10-pager
