    damn dawg

here's a big one for me, since I reclaimed the LP and it's staying in the collection now. It was in a bunch of stuff I was planning to throw out at one point. Definitely taught me to scrutinize what I got:

I think my Glenn Jones LP was in an ignored modern soul/r&B bin of mine for a while, too. lol.

How about valuable records you almost passed up? The only reason I picked up an "unknown" 45 for 50 cents was because it was on a South Carolina label, not because I really liked it all that much. The a-side was a kinda lame Doobies ripoff, while the b-side was a decent but not mindblowing ballad.

Fast forward a few years later and two noted soul collectors were offering me $200+ for it, and getting pretty irritated that I wouldn't sell.

Had this in my $5 soul/funk box at record fairs for about a year. Nobody bought it...until a SOulstrutter for $500.

Actually, this is probably my favorite McNeir record, but I had no idea it was worth this much (the value shot up astronomically some time after I got it).

Its entirely possible I passed this up in the 10 cent box about 6-8 years ago

He has others on Setting Sun that turn up a lot more often.

    I wouldn't mind a copy of his 45 on De-To myself.

    I think he has 2 on De-To:

    - Isn't She A Pretty Girl
    - Sitting In My Class

or perhaps they are two sides of the same single.

those are both sides - there is a later boot or repop of the record though( from the late 70s/80s perhaps?) - I've heard you can tell the 'originality' based on whether or not the schoolbell that rings at the start of 'Class' is on there...( no lie)

the setting sun one to check for is 'my baby' or something 'baby' related.

    NOT, 'wendy is gone'

Does anyone know if the "Wendy Is Gone"/"Give Me A Sign" versions on the Setting Sun single are identical to the versions on his Prodigal LP?

You can also tell by the label. The boot lacks a black stripe on the left hand side and an arrow that encompasses the center hole, both of which are featured on the OG.

    Funny Story:

I threw away one of those cliche looking Here's-your-Zodiac! styled records which I'd grabbed up in a lot. Unknown to me, it was the second half to a set and Secret Chimp had recently found the first half. It just so happens we talked to each other later that same day (by now it was nighttime and trash day was the following morning) and he excitedly mentioned his copy. I nearly dropped the phone rushing to grab it outta the trash. Good catch D.

I don't understand- you guys are ACTUALLY tossing records in the trash??

Absolute insanity... plaese to let others grab them up

Thats what we have the quarter rack outside a local store for - I'm dropping piles there almost as often as I buy them these days

ANYTHING thats not classical/EZ in ANY condition will get picked up by someone within a week...

    NEVER assume they're unwanted

yup! deal with it. donations are cool but I'd rather not force people to dig through the same old crapola

plus not all of us have the luxury of living near a store that will take crapola

drop the box on the sidewalk then- somebody will take them

Yeah, some of these schitts need to be taken out of circulation.

i don't know, if folks are throwing megarares in the trash i don't think they're qualified to be deciding what needs to be taken out of circulation

not really trashing, just thinking of getting rid of it, as I don't like it too much, but then this
