Where does fit into this equation?

Well dude, while you stay keeping his name in your mouth . . .

He's clearly the most street credible beach boys fan.

well after reading this thread, i'm a timmydigsalot i guess. good to know this site wants to keep 'digging' to themselves. the internet can be such an unfriendly place..... :thesmilyfacecryinggraemlinicantfind:

  • Dan Savage is still my favorite alias.

There are much easier ways to "get at" me than a record nerd message board, FB. I wouldn't have even seen this post if it weren't for a cute little boy - I mean bot - that searches various sites for any mention of my name.

But, since I'm here, let me opine on the ways of the long lost dig. Sure, I get into the whole sweating, haggling, kneeling, sweating, cursing, sloppy way of finding a lost loft classic - it's reminds me of my bedroom, except that my bedroom has better antiques and the flea market has better bears! But quite honestly despite the fun, the funk, and the fungus I simply don't have the time anymore. E-Bay all the way, get with the times FB. Your girlfriend will like you a lot more when you keep your spending discreet and your ass in the kitchen instead of the flatbead truck of some skeezy flea market pederast. Personally, I hate the kitchen and love the skeezy flea market pederasts but that says more about me than it does about the digging experience.

    Ciao,
    Dan

  • there should really be no contempt toward them dudes. cause even if they're airing out the bin next to you, they're going to pass up raers for a dollar bin "black moses". no bother to me, plus we've all been there.

if you think Timmy is leaving East of Underground in the bin you are sadly mistaken...

They can be a real menace, it's true.

Always remember that records are everywhere that you are not.

It's like Mt. Analogue out there and the perdams can only be seen through periphery.
Most great record scores come by accident.

Even so, most young bucks can come to my crib and learn all they want.
Ask Chris, Castillo, or any of the Chicago locals.
These dudes can come over anytime they feel like it because THEY DON'T FRONT LIKE THEY KNOW SHIT.

Bottom-line: Stay humble (but focused) and the records will find YOU.

    Isn't the opposite more likely?

Some people have more reason to be humble than others.

The internet has killed off the art of the old school digger.

And change can be frightening to the old guard.

Hey Greg, do you think that the kids are better served by the internet than the old trial and error, hands dirty method?

I know the internet is great for me, I learn tons that way - but nothing beats getting out there "in the trenches"...

he can afford to stay out of the trenches.

When did alot of people start becoming bitter old grumpy diggers? If some young buck is checking out the soul crates, who gives you the right to make him hurry up or cast judgement. dude got there first. I'm sure there are other crates to go through.

C'mon, dude - I see TDG's of all races ... I was passing off Jazz records
to a young black dude with neatlocks at a record show a few months ago.
There's a crew of Korean kids I see around sometimes, they got
all excited over sealed $8.99 Scorpio boots of Fela records, thinking
    they were raers.

Honestly, when I see a TimmyD "in the field," I
assume he's a soulstrut cat I see on here but don't
    know in real life.

If that means I consider myself a TimmyDigalot, I don't know

what about the doods that think they know about uber-raers(when only a handful of people in the world do, and I have no delusion about being one of those dudes, I dont know poo-poo), but dont know a james carr record from an otis redding joint? these dudes are are multiplying like horny rabbits...

regular record nerd: "dude, you should grab this "how ya gonna get respect" 45, its a good 'un"

thinks he is uberraer dude: "who is that? Hank Buh-lerd? never heard of him"*

I wonder if that was the same guy who was going nuts when he heard Johnny O's 'Watts breakaway' for the first time.

    Raj,

Think you should reserve your contempt for the following previously discussed specimens:

Greedy hoarders getting piggy with glee
this can actually be fun to watch
Spotters that follow you to each dealer
then attempt the above piggy tatics
Bobble Heads who stand next to or behind you
then attempt at plucking and barking directions
Buyers who pull 2 foot stacks of records
    then only buy 5
Buyers hitting each dealer in any or all above fashion
then places unpaid for records behind dealers table for
    later weeding or payment
Folks who have no self respect
    resulting in atrocious hygiene
