wait, all these schools, 100 copies per school, must have been seen by many
Hmmm... I have that Langley track on another LP.
there is a great double lp set of just Langley High, recorded in VA at their spring concert, has several face melters including a dennis coffey cover, maybe from 71 or 72 the record pictured above is the concert competition in mobile alabama that the kasmere band won 3 sides of about a dozen high school bands & one side of airmen of note, some noted judges & a blind college band ! more high school band mooves & grooves some kool stuff !!
Maybe this is quite rare? would be interested to know how many folks have owned it or seen it. LP is titled 'Discovery Club 1', presumably more releases were planned, but never seen those. As far as I can tell the LP was mailed out with membership to the 'Discovery Club', a showcase for unrecorded black talent in association with the "Togehter Brothers and Sisters Program". Apparently, inserted inside the record jacket the was a "memberships' opinion card" which the member was requested to fill out and return after listening to the record. It appears a previous owner dutifully did so!! Voting results were to be publised in the monthly newsletter "Discovery Club Sounds"
Side one featured a band of NYC origin called "Underground Rail Road" who could be seen rolling around town on Tuesday nights in WWRL's Soulmobile.
Side two featured a band out of Westchester NY called "Tree Of Life. A bunch Vietnam vets, who you could catch performing at Wantu Wassuri, Playmate, Gobby's and The Haven all in Westchester.
