    See, 3rdstream, here's where you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground.
    Accepting a contribution from a lobbyist in return for legislative favors is illegal. Democrats accepted ZERO DOLLARS from Abramoff. Democrats are in no position to sell favors, since they are not in power/cannot influence legislation. Abramoff is a hardcore conservative who has been operaterating a slush fund for republicans for the last five years.
    You swallowed the RNC talking point hook, line and sinker. This is a Republican scandal through and through. Show me otherwise. Please. Give me anything. Anything.
    And don't say "democrats took money too." That's ign'ant. Accepting a contribution from a constituent is not illegal.

    ok, lets take reid for example, he has recieved about $60,000 in the last 4 years from indians, he is on the indian affairs committee, this money came from coushattas indians, hmmmmm, the coushattas were clinets of Abramoff, while Abramoff did not give the money directly to Reid what looks bad is the fact that Durbin has given the money away to charities but Reid...
    "feels that Abramoff was a Republican operative, and this is a Republican scandal," said Reid's spokesman, Jim Manley. "He's done nothing improper." "

    "looks bad"? that's the best you can do?

    tepid...

    please point to a Democrat under investigation in this matter.

    Thanks to KeithVanHorn for the ally-oop.

    The only answer is VERTICAL politics.....instead of spending all your time pointing at the other side, blaming one of the two scumbag gangs, point upwards towards the political leaders [color:red]and corporate oligarchy[/b] [/color] who have created this mess ON BOTH SIDES.

    Overall I firmly believe with what was stated here but the politicians on both sides are really only a smokescreen and subset of the larger ruling party which consists of the tiny majority of the population who hold all the wealth and power.

    Unfortunately in this day and age, politicians cannot get elected without money.
    Money owns the media.
    Money protects itself...

    Money is pretty smart about this process.
    It gives the masses just enough comfort to keep them from doing anything drastic enough to change their lives or this country's direction. Big Macs, hypnotic TV and cheap electronics - everyone can own their own cardboard version of "The Dream".

    What does this prove? The "Abramoff scandal" is, among other things, about money that was given to his lobbying group for one purpose and handed to the republicans for another. Where is your proof that any of these contributions was not intended to be given to these democrats? Until you have something to add....

  • Also, just to clear up a common misconception. Abramoff has contributed tons of money to Republican Campaigns - including money that he stole from his clients. However, he has not contributed ANY money to democrats. Only his clients have contributed money to democratic campaigns, but this is of course, entirely legal.

    Get your facts right.

    I totally agree - Myself included!

    The problem is that it is systemic.
    Take Wal-Mart for example.
    They are almost totally unchecked and out-of-control.
    Personally I don't shop there but I also realize that families with less money than me often have to. Of course, it is the Wal-Mart McJobification of American workers that causes these families to have less spending money in the first place. How do you get everyone to agree to want less stuff and to be willing to pay a bit more for what they purchase so that (hopefully) everyone's group purchasing decisions raise everyone up? I just don't see it happening. It seems so fucking depressing at times...

    Democrats Also Got Tribal Donations
    Abramoff Issue's Fallout May Extend Beyond the GOP

    Lobbyist Jack Abramoff and an associate famously collected $82 million in lobbying and public relations fees from six Indian tribes and devoted a lot of their time to trying to persuade Republican lawmakers to act on their clients' behalf.

    But Abramoff didn't work just with Republicans. He oversaw a team of two dozen lobbyists at the law firm Greenberg Traurig that included many Democrats. Moreover, the campaign contributions that Abramoff directed from the tribes went to Democratic as well as Republican legislators.

  • How do you get everyone to agree to want less stuff and to be willing to pay a bit more for what they purchase so that (hopefully) everyone's group purchasing decisions raise everyone up?

    See, 3rdstream, here's where you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground.

    The Indians were ALREADY giving money to democrats before Abramoff came into the picture and connived them into giving money to republicans.

    peep this:

    American Prospect hires private firm to analyze the Abramoff issue.

    The analysis, which was commissioned by The American Prospect and completed on Jan. 25, was done by Dwight L. Morris and Associates, a for-profit firm specializing in campaign finance that has done research for many media outlets.

    The analysis shows:
    # in total, the donations of Abramoff's tribal clients to Democrats dropped by nine percent after they hired him, while their donations to Republicans more than doubled, increasing by 135 percent after they signed him up;
    # five out of seven of Abramoff's tribal clients vastly favored Republican candidates over Democratic ones;
    # four of the seven began giving substantially more to Republicans than Democrats after he took them on;
    # Abramoff's clients gave well over twice as much to Republicans than Democrats, while tribes not affiliated with Abramoff gave well over twice as much to Democrats than the GOP -- exactly the reverse pattern.

    "It's very hard to see the donations of Abramoff's clients as a bipartisan greasing of the wheels," Morris, the firm's founder and a former investigations editor at the Los Angeles Times, told The Prospect.
    "If you're going to make the case that this is a bipartisan scandal, you have to really stretch the imagination," says Morris. "Most individual tribes were predominantly Democratic givers through the last decade. Only Abramoff's clients switched dramatically from largely Democratic to overwhelmingly Republican donors, and that happened only after he got his hands on them."

    It's not necessarily...
    Everyone inherently has the freedom to do whatever they want.
    All I was saying is that there are always consequences from the aggregate decisions all of us make.
    I bought an IPOD, I watch me some mindless TV, but I don't shop at Wal-Mart.

    Damn dude, learn how to read.

    the campaign contributions that Abramoff directed from the tribes

    THIS IS MONEY FROM HIS CLIENTS. As I already pointed out (with statistics), the Indian Tribes were already giving money to Democrats, much more so than to republicans before Abramoff got involved. It is no crime for constituents to donate money to campaigns. The whole scandal, which you seem to not-get, is that Abramoff was taking money that was meant for one purpose and funneling it to republicans.

    I am starting to understand how Bush still has supporters. Is your point here that it is wrong for democrats to accept contributions from constituents who willingly, and under no false pretexts, wish to donate to them??? Stop trying to make a point when you obviously don't have one.
