John Tuturro and Mark Ruffalo are the most versatile actors of our time. Discuss.
"Uh, I can play retards, fags and Lester Bangs."[/b]
For my money this is the most talented and versatile actor to walk the earth right now. Dude can do it all. Character, comedy, leading, Black, the cowboy from the Village People. you name it he's got it covered.
Hm. Sounds like someone who hasn't owned a whole lot of fela.
Sure, there are plenty of Fela records that sound similar - the man made well over 40 records - but there are plenty that sound like nothing else at all.
Lame to make huge generalizations about one of music's greatest....
The real question is, how do you fit a 20 minute Fela song onto such a compilation?
Also, I don't think fela, with his multiple wives, huge spliffs, and army death orders, is really Time Life material...

OK -- if Fela's not on this comp., my vote is for substituting one of his 20 minute joints with one track from Orchestre National De Barbes, Seba, Hugh Masakela and Gnawa Diffusion. Oh... And Tinariwen, if there's time.

Most of these songs were played at my last job at this restaurant on repeat EVERY DAY. On the real though, that is laughable comp of world stuff.
World is a lame catagory anyway. Shit you could put whatever in there. Who let the dogs out though would not be one of them. That belongs on the time/life series...Childrens music.
Seriously though, when I worked in a record store every 30-40 year old college educated person & their momma would come in asking if we had all those songs. They were always real snotty about it too - cause, after all, they were listening to "WORLD MUSIC", not some low-brow pop music. Let's face it, the vast majority of America thinks that Harry Belafonte is "ethnic" & that they can listen to him & be cultured. The rest don't even think about it at all.

The Bundu Boys should be on there as well.
