I dig through a shitload of records over the course of a year. I totally ignore 12" singles because I have ADD and don't have the patience. I'm a very little dude in the 12" worldSo I have an idea that will either make me the laughing stock of SS for a day or result in a donation to the Salvation Army in the name of Soulstrut.Give me a real generic, quick, crash course on what to be on the look-out for in the world of 12" Modern Soul, Rap, etc....Labels, time periods, locations, etc. Then the next time I see a pile of 12" I'll go through, buy a few and post them here.If they suck you can use me as the comedic whipping boy of the day.If I happen to pull something good I'll put them on ebay and donate 100% of what they bring to The Salvation Army in the name of SS. Dumb idea?? If so, go ahead and Son me now!!

I collect a bunch of these for dj'ing.
Set some aside for me and we can swap instead of exploiting them for profit.

I've got this, how about helping me with an OG BWH? haha wouldn't be a fair trade anyway.

I think I've got that Larry Wu too.

I passed on about 5 of those Budwiser 12"'s about 5 years ago

Jeeez...this will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I was hoping for a much simpler formula, like one I would suggest to someone looking for Psych LP's......

    Psimple Psych Parameters
    Between '65 - '75
Small label(#'s 101 or 1001 are always a good sign)
Avoid (For the most part) Horns, Steel Guitar, Mandolin, Cover Versions
Long cuts of 7 minutes+ is usually a good sign
Look for Sitar, Hammond, Effects, Fuzz

Is it possible to boil down 12" like this???

Unfortunately it's not that simple. There can be a hot cut on a major label by a major artist for no apparent reason while other tunes on the same label, same year can be used for frisbees.
It helps to have some affinity for the music to be able to select the good ones by the sound (although this isn't always a good method)

  • look for white label promos on major labels or subsidiaries from 1976 to 1979. disco and black music specifically.

That's what I figured.....I'll stick to the shit I know.....just thought it would be fun to see if you could send an idiot like myself out there and make a score based on a crash course.

I'm always down to trade for these, I like some of the music and play them out. Give me a shout, I'm in the metroplex.
