what does bitrate and sample rate mean?

    It means the quality of the recording. Specifically how it works, I dont know. But the higher the number, the better.



    Similar to recording a VHS tape on SP, LP, or SLP. The slower you record the more information you get, but it takes up more tape. The same with sampling. You get more info (better sound quality), but it takes up more memory.

    bit rate refers to how fast the bits (the ones and zeros) of data are streaming.

    sampling rate refers to how many samples per second are recorded from a continuous analog signal to make a discrete digital signal.

    so, no... they are not the same.

    They are sort of the same thing:

    sample rate is the number of samples taken per second from a continuous source to make a digital source - for example, CD quality audio is sampled at 44.1 kHz, or 44100 times / second.

    the bit rate has to do with encoding - how many bits are used to represent a second of audio. 128 kbit/s means that each second of audio is represented by 128000 bits.
