So Let me get this straight...

We're all going to pretend like the thread is gone but it's not, which, in effect, does nothing in the legal regard.

We're all going to have to accept that the thread is gone, which pretty much leaves us all inculpable.

    you got it.

One thing that was so much better about the album upload thread than Soulseek is that even though you could find a good amount of those records on Soulseek[/b], it was kinda cool and special to have people encoding and recommending shit out of their own collections.
75% of the shit in that thread was already all over soulseek. dudes were just uploading their itunes folders, not sitting there personally ripping shit
    for your enjoyment.[/b]

What's the saltiness for man? I didn't suggest that it was done for my enjoyment, I just said I thought it was cool that people were sharing albums they enjoyed with others. I understand people being heated at how the thread turned out with leechers and lurkers and crazy requests from newbies, but I personally didn't take part in that. I did download, but I never requested or rated posts, and tried in my small way to give back. No beef plaese!

    What's the saltiness for man?

The proper expression is, "Oh, what - you gonna get all froggy now?"

  • rating contributions, begging, posting and requesting not hard to find records, lurkers having access to every raer known to man..... take that shit to slsk.com
i mean, i'm assuming the biggest problem whoever removed it had, was lurkers leeching off it, which is reasonable. but i can't say that i don't miss that thread cause it was fucking great. had something extra to look forward to every day. but oh well... i wish there was some way to continue what we were doing in a more orderly fashion. sure there's soulseek, but soulseek is so impersonal, aside from the usual problems (getting banned cause you don't have what they want, connection getting cut after two songs, having to wait in qeue for hours and hours....). maybe a pm upload extravaganza. holler. cause what we were doing was too fucking awesome to give up on. yousendit album downloads 4 life, batches!!!!

    has it been removed.

if so..Thank God...that shit started to get silly

I was going to upload a request from my collection (the real one, not an itunes playlist), but I guess I was too slow on the digitizing tip. I wanted to contribute, because sharing is a good look. But the fact of the matter is that I'm relieved that the thread got removed. I can dig the share->appreciate aspect of it, but there's a short path from that to just plain 'gimmedisgimmedat'->'yo daaaaaawg, that shit was wack yo'. Why should I spend time recording, chopping, converting and tagging a requested piece of wax only to hear somebody clown it as being 'snoozeville' five minutes after uploading it?

That thread was way out of hand. I'm not hating on file sharing and the mp3 format. Computers and digital culture are a major part of my life. I just don't like when people get too far into viewing music as a lifeless commodity you can just throw around, at least not in a so-called music lovers forum like this. I'm not stupid, I realize that music is a business as well as a cultural thing, and record collecting is an extension of this fact. It is nice though, when you're able to keep the material talk to a minimum. I get weary from the constant 'this is a xx$ record' blabla. Fucks my head up. Sometimes I get caught up in it as well, and I hate when that happens. I'm a mostly offline fella when it comes to records, I'm not on Ebay and I don't care about Soulseek and the like. Not hating on it at all, it's just not my bag.

Call me an old hippie foolio, but because I spend so much time with the computer, working on music, using it for a tool for studying (I'm a computer science student), I just can't wait to get away from it every chance I get. Especially when it comes to collecting records. I don't want to spend the remaining time I have sitting on my ass mouseclicking on a myriad of auctions, record porn and p2p seeking for shit I don't have time for or interest in viewing or listening to. I try to keep it to the essence, and I can't wait to get out and save some real world stories on my mental harddrive.

As I mentioned in the thread, I like when people contribute something to a community, but I also like when things have some level of personality. I prefer listening to people's mixes or beats, watching their movies, learning from their knowledge, reading their articles, meeting them offline, rather than just having huge amounts of raer mp3 album handed to me on on a plate. I want stories, something I can feel. That's just me. I can definetely get with the whole 'I always wondered what this sounds like/I can listen to it in the whip' thing, don't get me wrong. The massive availability just seemed to dullen peoples sense of perspective a bit. (Grope, I'm with you on a lot of what you say, you just talk that fire talk that often gets misunderstood ).

OK, I'll shut up now and get those Birthright mp3s PM'd to the ones who showed interest. Sorry if this sounded like the incoherent ramblings of an grumpy geeza, just had to get it off my chest.

it was only because of that thread that I ever learned about SoulStrut. It doesn't phase me that the thread is gone.. whats great is that I found a place where people share the same interests as me. None of the people I know are record collectors or producers...so who am i gonna converse with?? you fellas. thanks all for the music sharing, now back to the real shit: crate digging.

shit is fucked up when dudes are so lazy that they can't be bothered to look on soulseek & need shit plopped in their laps. Doesn't surprise me. If you're too lazy to dig in the real world, those habits will carry to the virtual one. What's next: are you gonna ask Raj to bring some burned cds to your houses? Most of the shit posted is common as dirt on soulseek. Dudes want shit handed to them on silver platters.

the fact that the album upload thread has bought more new people here than the soulstrut ep seem to have - is pretty scary to me.
