Man, this new issue has to be def my fav in a while. Articles on Mulatu, Axelrod, a Gilles Petersen interview, and a return of the rediscovery column, this time five different albums, albeit shorter reviews, but more breadth... props to aschrock for his 'return to the east' article - with the research!This is one I'll have no problem reading cover to cover in no time.....

    I just copped this at the w/e - noticed that the 'look' is changing up a little, and the ad's for the move to 6 issues a year in 2006

    some great photos as always, this time footage of the axe & HB in the studio during 'songs of'

    that was one chessy ass photo of will holland they ran tho

    I read THIS which came in my mail today. It's no Wax Po, but the pictures are better quality.

    re: axelrod, its more a transcript of a conversation between (I think) Monk 1, egon & the axe around the time of the concert in london .. stories/recollections 'straight from the horses mouth' so to say

    I was thinking this same thing last night. I've been reading it off and on the last few days and think overall the "journal" is getting better and better.



    Did anyone else read that Jazzy Jay article where he talks about digging with Z-Trip in Australlia and Japan and people were taking pictures?

    Thanks homie! It was a fun challenge to put together, even if my style is too dry IMO at the moment.

    You should check out A HREF="http://www.groundliftmag.com">Ground Lift. I just finished another article for them on two Boston jazz heads. (with thanks to fellow strutter m_dejean for the vintage pics!!)

    The Axelrod interview was interesting. He is one tough dude... "what? how can you ask that question?" or "come on, dont you understand?!". But the best line... "Fuck him, Fuck Phil Spector"

    finally got this and agreed on all counts. I will be spinning New Directions in Modern Music tonight...one of my all-time faves.

    has it actually gotten better? I stopped buying after issue #5 because they were boring the hell out of me. The GP piece sounds very interesting though...

    heh, in the article I think they're talkin' about Tokyo and passer-by's taking pics??? That pictures at some dingy store in Australia that I took them fools diggin'.... I rarely take pics of dudes diggin', I just happened to have a camera handy...
