DJ Headphones recommendation?

Ok, before y'all go saying Sony and pioneer etc. I will let you know that I have owned both of them and they are both great. I think the sony's actually sound the best. My friend uses the new technics and they are solid too but weigh like 5lbs.!!!! My problem with headphones is that no matter what brand or how solid or how much I pay they ALL end up broken. I'm very gentle with them and I do take care of them and I never ever wrap the cord as I know it causes shorts. I chalk this up to normal wear and tear, as I figure I use them every single day and for them to last me at least a year, I'm getting my $160 bucks use out of them. I'm gonna go with this old school style joint right here and see how it works out. Do any of you steady working djs that play out damn near every single night if not more have any solid suggestions? Maybe I should just charge it to the game like silk the shocker and just have multiple pairs on deck!

Always have a back up... And don't go cheap.

    That's what I figured!

  • I ran through two Sony 700s. Theres just to much plastic on that pair. Once it snapped during a gig. The other time I was on my way to a gig and stuffed the record bag in the trunk and didnt notice the headphone cord sticking out the trunk and it split in two. Ran into THE WIZ which was the only spot open at 10pm and grabben the sony 600's. Ive had these for like 3 years now. They look ugly as hell but have never had a single problem. A few friends of mine have the pioneer dj joints and no complaints.

    Preme,

I used to fuck with Sony in a big way but they always busted on me after a while anyway. I also used the Pioneer which I like a lot better than Sony but it also had problems.

I fucked with Sennheiser and some of the models are pretty dope. They also come with completely replaceable parts so if a pad falls off or if the cord burns you can replace the part and not the whole thing.

I have a pair of Sennheisers that I use as back-up, just like Matthew said:

Always have a back up... And don't go cheap.

... but some things about the ergonomics of them don't make them my first choice.

These are the ones I use:

    Technics DJ 1210 headphones.

They're solidly built and don't cost that much. I started using these after Cash Money gave me the recommendation on them years ago. I have a belief that "working DJs" should expect to replace their headphones once a year. I've had these for almost 3 so that makes them ahead of the curve and "good" in my book.

Also, I used to fuck with "The Wand" and I would probably do so again, it's just that the only jawns I ever see are the ones that Vestax makes and I don't fuck with that brand. I know Dancetrax in NY used to make their custom jawns, but I don't know if they still do. However "The Wand" = big dog status and a real good look.

Sidebar: I just saw my man Max Djing for Rihannon on that TV show "Las Vegas." That's decent.

I use the Technics DJ1210 as well, though I don't DJ out much, I'd recommend this for its price and solidity.

For three grand, you'd think they'd offer more than a two-year warranty, like at the very least, a grand a year.

I got GRADO LABS headphones and I am really pleased with them.

I don't know how well they would hold up in the club. But they're nice for at home usage and mixtape making. Affordable too.

Mine are the SR125 and they cost me $180 Canadian.

I've always just rocked them basic-ass Sony headphones that are $39.99. Good enough (quality-wise) and I know I'm gonna break them eventually - so my cheap ass doesnt bother spending mad loot on phones that I know will break. I think they're made this way on purpose and those 5lb heavy duties might be worth it if they pack some reinforce steel or sumptin.... ya dig!

    who carries these??

don't buy Stanton's ...uggggg.. kept breaking.

  • i found it hard to get mine too- but in the end i had 2 days before a gig so i had to settle on getting a pair with purple accents on them.

did you ever get these, Dee?

if so, what do you think?

  • DeeRockDeeRock 1,836 Posts
I did and have been using it a lot. I love it, all the other djs look at it real crazy and don't get it. One guy forget his headphones last week. I let him use it and it had a real hard time, he couldn't do it. Go figure. I think it's the shit.

  • i have a pair of the Sony MDR-V600 joints for sale if anyone wants them...perfect shape. make me an offer
