I know some of you post pics from your gigs. Maybe we can do it weekly like weekly digs? It's just interesting to see as pics do tell a story. Here is a link to the pics from my gig last Friday. http://www.jivephotography.com/Element3/

I wouldn't last five minutes in that chi-chi party before getting thrown out, but I wish I could stomach that kind of shit so I could catch one of those boppers.

what kinda of stuff do you play to that crowd i'm really curious to find out, if thats ok ?

i don't think i would survive in there playing hiphop/rnb, maybe some current ones, but i'm guessing house.

LMAO!!!!!!!! Yes that is the DMC champ Scene from the boom bap project that was playing with me that night. He showed up with gel in his hair and a dress shirt!!!!!!! Fucking hilarious. Look at how sweaty he was. That's my dude though.

As far as play list goes it was very easy: Pussy Cat Dolls, Shakira, Michael Jackson. I was winning all night. Very very typical easy crowd and the best part was that I had to work all night and was up in the dj booth away from the crowd so I didn't have to deal with any of those jokers. Just a few of the girls that made their way into the booth!

  • JD,

Is that your old spot in Houston where you had to jump a fence to take a leak?

  • is that FAMILY sheep?

hard to tell from the pic

Right now in SF its a lot easier to get away with playing current rap/r&b/a lil' dancehall/a lil' rock for the whiteys/a couple funk tracks here and there then it was a few years ago. At the height of the dot com boom no one could have dreamed of playing anything but house at spots like Ruby Skye, Suede, etc. I'd imagine its the same up there.

For a night on the town, it seems vertical bands are still the shirt style of choice for most men, including these clubgoers in the Meatpacking District. When most guys in New York want to get lucky, they wear the ???Stripey.??? You know Stripey. It???s the goofy-looking shirt that has become as basic as a pair of socks. Key characteristics: somewhat fitted, vertical lines, the top two buttons undone. Worn with jeans that are just the right level of tightness, not loose enough to scream ???Gap!,??? not tight enough to scream ???Gay!??? Two years ago the Stripeys were daring. Invigorating. A funky alternative to the stale look of black pants and Banana Republic. But now it???s everywhere. The Stripey has monopolized the clubbing wardrobe, assaulting the city with a fashion blitzkrieg, the likes of which we haven???t seen since the Trucker Hat.
