Copped today, at the (increasingly lame) Dedham, MA Record Show:[/b]

only real good LP I found, copy I bought was a blue label promo on Volt, but unlike the one in the photo has huge radio station letters on the cover in marker (not that I care)..had to haggle him down to $15...

also got a couple of other LP's for $1 each:

Ars Nova - Sunshine & Shadows - Atlantic

Bill Deal & Rhondells - Vintage Rock - Heritage (best stuff I've heard by them, which ain't saying much)

The record show is much better for 45's, it's the only reason I really go, although this time was not as deep as usual:

Terry & the Chain Reaction - Keep Your Cool - UA
John Edwards - Claim Jumpin' - Aware
The Texans - Bloody River - Infinity (Johnny & Dorsey Burnette post-Rock & Roll Trio-joint...minty...headz knowz!!)
    ? & the Mysterians - Sha La La - Super K(!?)
Show Stoppers - Shake Your Mini - Showtime
Dynamics - Ain't No Love at All - Cotillion
Ray Sharpe - Linda Lou - LHI (dope 60's update!)
Roman Carter - Queen Bee - Jewel
Sheppards - Just Let Me Love You - King Tut
Lula Reed - You Gotta Have That Green - Federal
Bobby Peterson Quintet - Mama Get Your Hammer - VTone (yes!!)

From my favorite local spot yesterday, all bought with dupe 45 trade-in credit:[/b]

At last! Waited TOO long for this one, but got it cheap on trade, and it rules...

Can't find a JPEG anywhere, but one of the dopest LP's I've grabbed in a looong time was

    Get In Touch/Rhythm & Sounds - Various - MPS 1974[/b]

...this shit is SO hot!! 1974 label comp put out by MPS, has Chris Hinze, Joy Unlimited, Rhythm Combination & Brass, Embryo, more...so funky, so dope, only $10 mint!

Also got some dope 45's from the same spot:

Coalitions - I Don't Mind Doin' It -Phil-LA of Soul
Sidney Joe Qualls - I Enjoy Loving You - Dakar WLP
Booker T & Priscilla - She - A&M WLP (nice Gram Parsons soul cover!)
Ted & Little Johnny Taylor - Cry It Out Baby - Ronn
Ted Taylor - Just a Crumb In Your Bread Box - Ronn
Eddie Bradford - You Made Your Bed - Chess '72
Alex Brown - Ride a Wild Horse - Roxbury
Eloise Laws - Tighten Him Up - Music Merchant
Bobby Newsome - Jody, Come Back and Get Your Shoes - Spring (dope!! like Joe Tex if he could do a better JB impression...best "Jody" song I've heard!!)

    last but definitely not least:
Lavell Kamma - Soft Soul - Tupelo Sound [/b]- I googled this one cause it was so dope (name is mis-leading, it's a heavy 1968-JB-style groover), and looked like such a local release...dude still plays today in the wine country with a funky jazz combo, and I even found THIS awesome webpage by a guy who did his Master's Thesis at FSU about Lavell Kamma and his life, it was available on PDF, and included this passage about the 45 I had just bought for $2:

"Lavell sipped his coffee and broke our silence with a thought triggered
    by the sign.
???Florence, 62 miles. I had a record man ??? I saw the sign back there ??? a record
that went number one in Florence, South Carolina.???
    ???What record was that????
??????Soft Soul??? was the record. It went number one in Florence, South Carolina
Albany, Georgia, and Lexington, Kentucky. Remember, I told you about that record. I
recorded it in Tupelo, Mississippi, at Tupelo Sound. I actually recorded it twice. Once in
Tupelo and once in Shreveport, Louisiana. After the recording in Tupelo, which is really
the best one, I recorded it at Jewel Studios in Shreveport. That was where Percy Sledge
and Alan (sic) Toussaint recorded their hits. Jewel Studios. I sure wish I had a copy of the
Tupelo Sound recording. That was really the better version of that song.???

    This makes me:
    a) want to send him my copy
    b) glad I found the Tupelo Sound version!

    Also: Boston Strutters Alert:[/b]
In Your Ear on Comm Ave just put out an OG of Roy Ayers "He's Coming" for $25...the cover is thrashed (radio copy), but the white label promo vinyl is super-clean! I woulda grabbed it, but I already got one...

I bought some nice shit at the flea and some nice-er shit off a housecall hop head who copped as soon as she had the money from me (her connect had shown up somewhere during the deal).

Such a shame. Old girl was jonesing throughout the interaction moaning and scratching and shit. She showed me pictures of what her life used to be and it was some of the saddest shit I've seen. She lived in a one room basement apartment with a matress, a stereo, a TV, and not much else.

The biggest shame was that the collection was ILL. Her ex-husband (deceased) was a jazz head. Incredible 63rd/47th St Blue Note, black label Atlantic, bullseye Atlantic, 50th St. Prestige, black label Tico, deep groove New Jazz, Mono brown label Impulse, etc etc etc. ALL THRASHED.

    Among those I rescued:

3 angry black spoken word ishts on the Jihad label; Black Mass (LeRoi Jones & Sun Ra) is actually in decent shape, with a "Come To The Trial and Support LeRoi!" flyer.

    Three for Shep on Impulse

    Ricardo Ray Jala Jala

Gary Bartz Another Earth on Milestone

    Marion Brown on ESP

    Any reports from Edison yet?

She wanted to sell me the whole rest of the batch for $20. I'll go back and get it tomorrow, but I'm letting them nod for right now...

I did alright in the 45 department, although there were quite a bit overpriced.

Did cop Landlord & Tenants 'Sagitarrius' 45, Fantastic Johnny C 'Let's Do It Together' (thanks for reminding me funky16), and Shades of Joy 'Flute In A Quarry', among others.

john wallowitch -- this is the other side of .. lp (1965 lp by andy warhol's brother -- or perhaps cousin? i think -- anyhow, the cover photographs are done by andy warhol as well. wallowitch plays piano. this is also a private press.)

double decker recs in allentown:(one dollar)

Lavell Kamma - Soft Soul - Tupelo Sound [/b]

Really great and really available/afordable record. I didn't know it was on Jewel tho. Tupelo is the only one I've seen. Send him your copy, you can replace it for under $10.
