Are NY Strutters going to this - on Sun Oct 23 at some chi-chi-looking place called Table 50?
Do you think it will be good?
Last time I heard Pete Rock DJ - about two years ago - it was totally disappointing and boring.
What do you think?

You got that right. I saw Pete rock at Roxy Blu early this year and he was not worth the price of admission. He just record dropped (no mixing) the regular Primo, Mobb Deep, and Pete rock bangers, nothing notable outside of that. Pete Rock is definitely one of my favorite producers but from my one experience I don't plan checking one of his CAD$20 dj nights. (sidenote: I did get promo tickets for the event so I shouldn't complain about the price)

you're from Toronto too.
the show i saw him at was the Opera House and it blew. the sound was shit and the openers were way more interesting than him - which is what friends said about the openers at the Roxy Blu show was well. i heard the recent Prince Paul DJ set was really disappointing too.
If you go before 11 it's only $5 bucks which is pretty cheap. And the drinks are no more expensive than anywhere else.
In conclusion I think you should go, I had a great time.

thanks a lot for the info amir and Double D - i might go still. look for me - i'll be wearing the missB t-shirt! just kidding.
i asked cause i thought maybe on his own turf and in a smaller venue is really the place to hear him.
thanks again.
yea - that place is doo-doo. shit sound, terrible staff, puny expensive drinks. the best thing about the opera house is the real jerk restaurant a few doors down.
Ya it was kinda weak
I respectfully and with great gladness accept the invitiation.
Thank You very much.
He missed his flight from New York to LA because of a "snowstorm".
Gig was postponed a week later.
He then caught another flight a week later to LA.
Then apparently someone told him that the flight was 20hrs to Sydney (It's about 15hr) so he chickened out???
This was 2 days before the re-scheduled gig....but he didn't tell anyone. Not even his manager.
The promoter here spent countless hours trying to locate him after he didn't show at Sydney airport.
Instead he found out that P.R. had flown back to NY. His manager was naturally spitting chips. Or so he said.
The deposit held was never released back to the promoter.
We later found out he had done the same thing to another promoter in the UK.
Naturally the people who put the show on down here lost face & shitloads of money.
He was booked for 5 gigs across the country.
A bit of a cunt act if you ask me.

Amazing how bullshit & lies get tossed around. I guess people were just covering themselves so as not to look foolish. It's all water under the bridge now, but still it wasn't cool to say yes in the 1st place now was it? Especially if there was no intention of even going. Screwed a lot of people around. 'Just being Pete' meant that a lot of people lost money. Not very nice. It's this lack of professionalism & respect for others that sucks. And no-one would risk bringing him out again.
Tony Touch came out...but he left his records at home???????? And borrowed them off other DJs while he toured.
Everyone warned us about Kool Kieth, but he's been out here twice now & apart from his fetish for Japanese girls who like to get freaky with him (& wanting to buy outback porn (???), chicken & plastic bags), he's been a pretty easy & humble dude...

Ha, well that's um, er good news.. I guess.
We should think ourselves lucky indeed. Maybe because we have beaches & surf??? ...and Koalas.
I guess your mate Dave just had enough people freaking out at him for his clients behaviour. Understandable.
Yes, Kieth is one.............seriously different individual.
Ta' mate.

admittedly haven't heard him at all in recent years. but i can attest that pete was absolutely when he started out w/ marley marl 'in control' on wbls in 89. that was some landmark, life-changing sh*t for old folks like me. procure dubs if at all possible.
cosign. i saw preemo DJ in philly for the scion tour this past year and i was utterly disappointed. just a lot of chatter and needle dropping. maybe i expected too much, but it was more like: "when i say hip, you say hop"...ol' dirty rest in peace! y'all remember this joint? (then drops livin' proof, biggie, mos def, every other preemo production).
the guy who really impressed me was jazzy jeff. dude spun for 2 hours+ and killed it. there was some other dude from philly called charlie blast that just murdered doubles of a bunch of old biz stuff and big daddy kane....
