mixin breakbeats question....

When spinnin breakbeats do you mix together the next record just like you would a regular hip hop record? The reason I ask is because some of my breaks are only like 10 seconds and then the tempo switches so I'm havin trouble blendin them together.Someone once told me that alot of cats that spin breaks don't mix because there is live drummin on the record instead of a continous looped beat.He said that sometimes they will just drop mix.How true is that?I know it might sound like a stupid question to some of you guys, but I'm new to this. Thanks for the help ahead of time.Peace

First you need a voodoo doll of Kool Herc

Then you need a clump of pubic hairs taken from the pant leg of Grandmaster Flash

Then you need to glue said hairs to the voodoo doll (preferebly in dreads)

Then place the doll on your tunrtable while you chant "all hail The Zulugoats" one hundred and 27 times.

When all that is complete you'll be able to needle drop and dj without a mixer.

Then, and only then, will your questions be answered.

  • I'm confused. Do you mean you're trying to do a set using only drum breaks?

  • kidinquisitive,

Nice video, DJAck. Those needles will shred some records though.

  • have you watched the karate kid recently?

i'll give you a real hint, only after you mix long enough you can keep up with live drummers.

don't try when you are starting out. notice how the 45 king used the drum rolls into songs to transition... that is the most complicated you should attempt.

it's like hearing the beating of a butterfly's wings.

for real. i've been DJ'ing for like 7 years and mixing live grooves still fucks me up. it's a matter of how well you know your records. some cats know just where their disco jams are gonna speed up and slow down and they can just ride that shit.

    you just gotta woodshed.
