Beautiful reggae, let's see. There's too many. I like Bob Andy's "I've Got To Go Back Home". Third World's "Rock The World" is nice too. Can't hurt to add a bit of John Holt in there.

  • Really good thread. I'm enjoying everyones selections.

I actually got this Cornell Campbell from one of Ross' mixes. I don't have a way to convert vinyl to the computer at the moment. I think it's slightly pitched up. If anyone has a better mp3...yousendit!

Cornell Campbell - You're No Good

Perhaps, this is blasphemous, as it is modern, but Groundation is the only new reggae group I'm fond of...

Groundation - Jah Jah Know featuring Don Carlos

    Heptones - Mystery Babylon

    More later..

There's an entire soundfile for Dennis Brown's "Let Love In". Yeah, they might not be on comps, sorry.

That Otis Gayle joint you posted - is that the same "I'll Be Around" that was (possibly) also recorded by Gregory Isaacs? I'm sure there's a song of that name by him on a Santic comp, "A Harder Shade Of Black", which came out in the UK in the mid-90's, but I've never been able to trace it. I think the comp may be deleted now as well. I figure if anyone on here will know, it'll be you, although any and all pointers will be much appreciated.

Don't know much about that comp. I do know that Gregory has a tune with that title, I'll Be Around", but it's his own composition and not a cover of the Spinners tune like the Gayle version above.

It's on Santic and Friends - An Even Harder Shade Of Black and I actually have seen it a few times here and there. If I see it again - I'll let you know. Does it have to be vinyl? It's a great comp and the Isaacs song is fantastic.

    keep it going guys

Those are his first 2 45's...issued on the BEverley's label. Judge Not has been reissued, original credits Robert Marley whereas the reissue credits Bob Marley. Got an extra original if anyone wants it.

Thanks for the heads-up, and to soufriere as well - I didn't know the Otis Gayle was a Spinners cover.

The Gayle was comped on the the Soul Jazz Studio 1 Soul compilation - best tune on there IMO. There's a wicked Johnnie OSbourne tune on Truth and Rights with same rhythm (which is why I keep doubles Gayle>version>Osbourne).

Yes! I can think of no better way to roll into springtime...

    These are all gorgeous:

Junior Byles - "A Matter Of Time" (perfection)
Wailing Souls - "Without You" (soaring harmonies over the "Creation Rebel" riddim)
Dennis Brown - "Silhouettes" (more exquisite heartbreak)
Burning Spear - "Down By The Riverside" (otherworldly vocals on this one)
Harry Mudie - "Where Eagles Dare" (an instrumental this time - simple, understated beauty)

Great picks so far everyone... this thread is :necessary:
