You know when a song is so good it gives you shivers?I unearthed my Speakerboxx CD today and I was listening to it in the car and when "Unhappy" came up I got shivers all over, so intense. Does that ever happen to y'all? If I haven't heard it in a while the same thing happens when I hear "T.R.O.Y." (or the original Tom Scott).

I get goosebumps everytime I listen to Herbie Hancock's solo on "Circle."

  • Every time I hear Otis' "These Arms Of Mine", Jawbreakers' "Chesterfield King", Tom Waits "Postcard From A Hooker ...", Masterplan's "Clinton Park", Miracles' "Bad Girl", The Profits joint on that Sound Of Young Los Angeles LP, Whispers' "Needle In A HayStack", Tommy Dorsey with a young Frankie doing "I'll Never Smile Again", Ella's "Dream A Little Dream Of Me", DR. John's "Such A Night", The Ballads "God Bless Our Love", Freddie Hughes' "Send My Baby Back", Travis Mckinley's "Baby Is There Something On Your Mind", Timothy Wilson's "These Are The Things That Make Me Know She's Gone", Howlin' Wolf's "Evil", That weird Jesse Boone ballad on Soul-Po-Tion, Los Muchos Plus' "Love Misunderstood", Mass Quan "Can't Come Fast Enough", e-40's "Hope I Don't Go Back" + a good portion of Ray Charles' ballads.

  • Areatha Franklin "Aint No Way" from Lady Soul. Right when the background vox go oooooooOOOOOOhhOOOOOooooooooo

Man, I've been listening to Hurt since I was about 15 (a loooong time now) and he still gets me. Some of the most effortless beautiful music I've ever heard.

The Jerry Garcia Band does a killer version of this, uh, I mean, no, I've never heard that song before.

definitely. dude is beyond truth, beyond language, beyond beyond. first thing that came to my mind when i thought of music that makes your skin crawl. i also got into his shit in my early teens. had that hauntingly uplifting quality that helped to peel back the mental albatross of that time. no beats though.

Archie Shepp - Song for Mozambique

Played a used copy of this in the store yesterday and sold it on the spot. I made the guy wait until the song was over before he could take it!

True, no beats, but that's not to say that he's without slaps.

    Thumps? No. Thumbs? Yes. Bassline!

It's like kickin' it on the porch with your grandpa, listenin' to him tell you stories all day. Yeah, it's really fucking hot on that porch, but Grandpa's talkin', so it's comfortable.

And every once in a while, somebody gets killed. Or takes a nap.
