I have a similar thing to Netflix called Screenselect in the UK. I sometimes get some series like The Shield, Arrested Development, The Adventures Of Pete & Pete, Freaks And Geeks (Get Get Get, this is my fave TV show ever) etc. They are usually good to get into as you can watch multiple episodes instead of one each week etc and you don't have to lay down cash on series that you might not watch again.

This happened(the P9 Strike against Hormel in Austin, MN) when I was living in Mankato MN, another small burg in southern Minnesota. That strike divided families, took a huge toll on the economy of southern MN and Austin/Albert Lea in particular. That was a very sad time in America, when the Federal gov and Big Corporations began an all-out war on US Labor. Sad to say, Big Bizness is still winning. The struggle continues(just look at the Northwest Airlines Mechanics Strike).

This film is incredible.
Von Trier is supposed to be one of our national cultural heroes, but I often find him to be unbearably sentimental and his portrayal of women is stoneage and oedipal. "Dancer In The Dark" is very overrated IMO. On top of all the usual Trier quirks, it's just plain boring. I like the older stuff better, like "Riget" (legendary). I did like "Dogville", but I think that's just on the strength of the acting. "Idioterne" was great as well. I haven't seen "Manderlay" yet, but I will soon. He is a weird little man, but I give him big respect for doing his thing and making a serious impact.
yeah that is one of the best documentaries i've ever seen. the director also did one about striking coal miners which i think was much more brutal than the one in austin. i haven't seen it in a while though. that shit is kind of fucked up the company hormel made 34 million dollars profit and was cutting wages.
'La Cienaga' - her debut, stamped her reputation - caustic observation about the bourgeois class in Buenos Aires, reminiscent of Bunuel's social commentary in that respect...
'The Holy Girl' - have yet to screen it although reviews generally have been positive...
There are a couple of other Argentinian films I'd recommend, but I suspect they aren't readily available on DVD...
looking at the long list of recommendations here, i think it's cool that people with a somewhat similar taste in music have a wildly different taste in movies.
