2: Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream
3: Pearl Jam 10
4: Soundgarden Superunknown
5: Red Hot Chilli Peppers Blood Sugar Sex Magic
6: Janes Addiction Ritual de lo Habitual
7: Green Day Dookie
8: Guns & Roses Use Your Illusion 1 & 2

Is Nine Inch Nails too industrial?  Was definitely popular/mainstream.

Ugh - half that list was/is not my style.  Not a mainstream rock guy.  Given the broadness of the thraed title, can we also talk 90s alt rock lists. Here's 10 (okay, 11) in alphabetical order:

The Beta Band - The Three E.P.'s
    Godspeed You Black Emperor! - F♯ A♯ ∞
Guided By Voices ‎– Alien Lanes
Lilys ‎– Eccsame The Photon Band
    My Bloody Valentine ‎– Loveless
Neutral Milk Hotel ‎– On Avery Island
    Primal Scream - Screamadelica
Spiritualized - Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space
    Stereolab - Mars Audiac Quintet
