This is the kind of question Soul Strut was built on.

You can't fusk with the Proto-rap-bonus Solomon.

The Joe Williams one I'd not heard. The twinkling keys are sampled elsewhere.

    Now I can't sleep.

    THANKS OBAMA.

Going to be that dude and ride for the lesser known

Worst would have to be Freddy Fender. He made more than one version, too.

  • damn, tough question.....there are so many!

have to pick Toussaint's own solo version. i love hearing his own interpretation of his composition, especially how he gives himself room to stretch out on piano.

runners up prizes to The Mad Lads and The Mighty Diamonds

Great break (I've tapped that one), but the singing on it is really annoying, almost grating.

Thanks - actually it was Jill Scott's "Brother" that I was thinking of (same sample).

Agree with either the Lee Dorsey or Joe Williams. Seems there are plenty of versions to choose from (I heard it once was said there were as many as 80+ versions).
Side note: The 45 of Joe Williams cuts down the intro and the piano break. Sucks.

But I'm not mad when the Cosby version comes on... does that make me a bad person retroactively?

small lil dutch/belga band. their the flood/gin fizz is a real thrift staple around here. As far as i know their succes was because of "pirate" radio Veronica where some of the bandmembers worked.
i'll try to make a rip this weekend
    and here is the q65's
