It's amazing, but the first 15 minutes or so are a bit 'new-age'... You'll know what I mean

    Essential viewing though

    Saw it.
    Recommend.

Liked the new-age stuff, thought it was essential to the story.
    Liked the documentary style.
Learned that Donna Godchaux sang back up there.
It's a shame that part of Jerry Wexler's legacy is his falling out with Stax and Fame.

There are a lot of things I wish they spent more time on.
There are some things, mainly one band, I wish they spent a lot less time on.
In fact, at the end it kinda felt like the movie was about that one band.

    Ban Bono.

yeah, great flick, annoyed that Bono was the first voice heard & first person seen but at the end of the day I guess they're going for some sort of mainstream recognition. Astounding the stuff Rick Hall endured at low points in his life.

It's just that it sometimes seems in every doc film I watch I see Bono.

  • Bono is a knob end but his meaningless presence is only brief . Great doco highly recommended. Rick Hall's life is so full of tragedy and triumph he is an inspiring human. It is mind blowing to think such a small place could be responsible for so much amazing music.

Good to see so many music docos being released.

I think they have medicine for that sort of thing now.
