"My favorite of these is the Howard Tate, which has grown on me with every listen. What else of his should I seek out?"

He didn't release that much. If you like soulful vocalists seek them all out.

Thanks Leon, Batsumi is by far the most ridiculous LP I've gotten in a long time. Emotional recording for sure.

Just checked this one out based on the chatter here and WOW.

    That is some heavy business.

Looks like its coming up for a super limited vinyl re-press in a few weeks.

These are my finds from the Austin Record Convention. I'm still restoring my 1956 VW and am still focusing more on selling than buying. The Iula Humps is some 60's stand up routine that was likely some white guy in black face. The humor was probably funnier at the time. The DP Express is a decent EP from Haiti. The Blonde Furniture is some 80's pop/new wave from NJ that I'd never seen. I was hoping it would be more post punk but it is growing on me. Dr Dre was doubles of Dre Day/Little Ghetto Boy. That dealer was selling a bunch of rap 12", 2 for $5. The Too $hort - Get In Where You Fit In double LP promo came from him too. All in all, it was a fun show again. I can't wait until my VW is finished and I have more budget for records.

Dope record right here. I've sampled so much heat off this lp. Overall good listen as well.

75 copies pressed? Really? What's the point?
    Not sure I believe it.

  • 500 I think, still too low.

    Also picked up:

    Brass Construction S/T
    Aurra - A Little Love
AWB - Soul Searching (how did I not own this before?)

a bit late, but this is stuff I picked up while visiting S??o Paulo last month:

Gal Costa - Agua Viva - includes this funky forr??
Luis Trochon - Barbucha - slightly experimental uruguayan nueva cancion
Met?? Met?? - Metal Metal - only new release I picked up, been meaning to get his for a little while
    Milton Carlos - Samba Quadrado

Maria Creuza - E os grandes mestres do samba - nice samba tunes
Gonzaguinha - Gonzaguinha da Vida - I once regretted passing on an album of his, but kinda regret picking this one up. Could've spent my $2 on something else.
    Minha Doce Namorada national ST
Magnetic Sounds (1979) - these always have one funky track

Neg??o dos Oito Baixos - S?? no Costurado - solid forr?? album
Roberto Carlos - s/t 1973 - of course the next spot I go to I find the 7" with the only good track from this LP
Mancha Apresenta - Decibass and Bateria Maravilhosa Vol. 2 - Mancha was a big DJ in S??o Paulo in the early 90s, he put out a number of comps, mostly classic samba rock tracks. These are slightly different, one is a hip-hop LP, the other is samba percussion.

Maria da Paz - s/t - has two decent boogie tracks, one a version of the classic "Deixa Eu Dizer"
Som de Valente - Rolando Rasteiro - solid samba-rock comp, things like Orlandivo and Noriel Vilela on it.
Carioca and His Cuban Percussion Orchestra - Chachacha Explosivo - admittedly cheesy latin record on Imperial
Giogio Moroder - Giogio & Chris - had to

on to the 7"s, I'll add links to some of the highlights:

Trio Nordestino - Procurando Tu/Mais Uma Carta
    The Youngsters - Mah-N?? Mah-N??/Eu Te Amo (version of Gainsbourg's Je T'aime)
Batista Jr - Diploma de Rua/Forr?? Com Samba
Roberto Carlos - includes Todos Est??o Surdos
Roberto Carlos - includes N??o Adianta Nada
    Tobias - Mulata/Bamba Ker??
Sidney Magal - Meu Sangue Ferve por Voc??
Sergio Mendes & Brasil 77 - Promessa de Pescador
Os Comunicadores do Samba - cover version of Vou Bate Pa T??

Deny & Dino - Tirando Sarro
    Erasmo Carlos - A Terceira For??a
    Wando - Odoi??
Eduardo Araujo & Silvinha - Sou Filho Deste Ch??o/Capoeira
Antonio Carlos & Jocafi - Chamego de In??
Gilberto Gil - O Ma Ia??
Wilson Miranda com Sambossa-5 - Canto de Ossanha
    Os Incriveis - Sem Vergonheira
    Zez?? Motta - Atividade

Nelson Ned - N??o Diga N??o (the famous Nelson Ned break!)
    Erasmo Carlos - Cacha??a Mecanica
Wanderley Cardoso - Vou Embora e Vou Sumir
Franko Xavier - Maria, Mariazinha/Sou Doido Por Voce Menina
    Deny & Dino - Ainda Vai Chegar o Dia/Bebado
    Adriana - Mam??e Ce Viu?
Diomedes - Forro de Seba/Casa Caiada
    Sidney Magal - Sexto Sentido

    Elizabeth - Nome e Sobrenome
Silvio Brito - Espelho Magico/Quando o Amanh?? Chegar/Casinha/To Vendendo Grilo
Wanderley Cardoso - Quando Me Sinto S??/Mo??a do Rosto Bonito - thought the odds were good with 2 Antonio Carlos & Jocafi compositions, but alas, they're both crap
    Os Tinco??s - Misericordia/Sauda????o aos Orix??s
    Ronaldo Malta - Canto Nag??
Elizabeth - N??o Ha Luar Nem Ceu Bonito/O amor que n??o ?? pra mim
    Os Baob??s - Happy Together/Down Down
Laranjeiras - Quando eu vim da Bahia

    Jackie - Yes Menina/Mam??e eu n??o quero
Os Mutantes - It's very nice pra xuxu/Top top
    C??lia - Azucri
