It's a bit of an open question, as it could be the best "Team" ever assembled, vs. the best ensemble performances on record. I guess it's the old Technique vs. Feel argument.
I'd side more with the latter end of the spectrum, which is not to say the former end will not show there faces here. Certain the Miles sections were heavy. F*ck, Coltrane is in there. But then, the JBs can do 5 minutes of one-stab-per-bar and it sounds magnificent.
I think the most insane stuff I've heard is on the "Live In Havana" set from Gonzalo Rubalcaba. It's around 1986/7. I can imagine the charts on that gig. Lots of 200 mph unison parts with big leaps and abrupt start-stops. Horacio Hernandez on drums. Heads up, fellas.
