About

Nice collection of rare soul/funk tunes recorded by Bay Area native Darondo in the 70s. The cut ???Didn???t I??? reached a fever pitch in the record collector community a few years a go as it was popularized by Gilles Peterson. The tune is heavenly bliss sweet soul. Other songs on here are very Al Greenish in spots (especially on ???I Want Your Love So Bad???) paling in comparison to ???Didn???t I?????? but all and all it???s a hard song to out do for anybody.

Hell yes! And of course, endless props to Jinx74 for this.

  • LEGS! I've given that track alone quite a few spins in various sets. The album is solid from start to finish, though it's a little high on this list (same ol' complaint that will keep coming up as this list continues, I'm sure.)

    Bingo.

So happy to have this in my life.

  • Always thought Darondo's voice sounded a little bit like Al Green.

    Love this album.

Anyone check the Music City Sessions comp? Not as consistent as Let My People Go, but there are some great productions:

  • Gotta love Bryan Cranston

"Didn't i" is one of those high rewards for people that dig deeper. A true gem that stands out. But, like the Devaughn album which also contains a golden treasure if you will, most of the songs make me want to revisit Mr. Green / mr. Mayfield. The blatant similarities get in the way of fully enjoying the albums as a whole.
Don't get me wrong, i don't think these lp's are one- trackers.
