Is it really in any big dude's best interests to disclose this information?
There is a balance to be struck... and it depends... if something's been reissued I pretty much don't care. But there are lots of things that I can find for $10 or $20 that more people would definitely want if they heard it. Guy's got to have some secrets, right?
Exactly. I don't mind revealing that I would like a copy of Is It Because I'm Black, but there are certain under-the-radar records I want that I would prefer not having SoulStrutters bidding against me on.
i dont think anybody here is that big of a tastemaker.
yes, I agree. Some people like to believe they are though. haha!
Sorry, but you're missing a subtlety.
I have always argued against the existence of "the SoulStrut effect" in the context of records like People Hold On, whose popularity some posters genuinely seem to believe SoulStrut is responsible for.
But there are plenty of more idiosyncratic pieces that one poster might have an interest in, and revealing that interest could prompt other posters with similar taste to also take an interest in them. This, in turn, could thwart the original poster's efforts to obtain a copy if it's the type of record that doesn't often turn up. I'm mostly thinking of stuff in fairly specialized genres, like gospel, here.

I see what you're saying. You don't want to get reynaldo'd again.

I can neither confirm nor deny the existance of such records.

Gene Tilley did the "Time" 45 (though on the 45 it says JB Green). There's an alternate, more fuzzed-out version of the 45 as well.
What's the deal with the Nairobi Sisters? It's a 45, right? My friend A*af was telling me how raw it is. I need to hear it.
