Johnny Lytle - New and Groovy LP

I didn't like his Loop LP on Tuba (I didn't like the organ sound on it and most tracs were dull), but people keep spending a lot of money on the New And Groovy LP on Tuba. What is it that I'm missing? Great record?

    It's real big in the Japanes and European soul jazz scenes plus it's not the easiest record to catch. A lot of older dudes (meaning 40+ years old) ask me for that record who are more into a swinging/groovy jazz sound than more straight up funk.



    Personally, I'm about 50-50 on it. I think if it didn't demand such a high price, say it was only a $20 record, I'd be a lot happier. When it does hit those flat moments my attention seems to drift to what records I could buy with the money I get for it.



    For my money though it's all about his Milestone releases anyways.
