So I'm leaving for London tomorrow, followed by a trip to Geneva on Friday (both for work; I'll be back in New York on October 20th)...
Usually, I don't have the time/inclination to seek out vinyl when I'm traveling on business, but I think I will actually be able to leave the confines of the respective convention centers for these trips. Is it worth looking for any records in either of these countries, or is anything I would find that would be of interest to me (ie, reggae, soul, the occasional funk 45) going to be out of an acceptable price range?
P.S. BTW, I'll be in Prague on November 17th...

London is worth a browse, particularly for the ol reggae .. some london strutters will prob be along soon, but I'd recommend a browse in either the notting hill area (perhaps more of a mission as there are a few shops in the blocks behind westbourne grove, reagge dudes tho - honest johns is in nearby ladbroke grove) or Berwick St in Soho (can someone confirm) - theres a reagge spot there downstairs which has loads of stuff, then there is a music & video exchange and a few other places too
Geneva is meant to be a bit duller .. all those diplomats .. but I've never been there myself - Switzerland is a beautiful country tho
Avoid the basement at Daddy Kool at all costs- bizarre pricing and staff so unfriendly / rude they should be on a leash.
try to check out this record store near a place called narodni trida. its next to the kfc there. its the biggest store in prague for 2nd hand, but some people already went there like me and mr thing so i dont know how much is left there. but they always get brand new 2nd hand. i think its worth a visit. beautiful city btw...lived there for 6 months. but dont be annoyed by the hordes of tourists rushing the city. if ur in for hiphopstuff (local czech and slovak rap records)go to the bbarak shop in an area called zizkov. its near the footballstadium. have fun or as they say in czech, #Mit Rad#
But I don???t think your going to find a bargain or any thing that you wouldn???t pick up easier and cheaper at home.
London isn???t a great place for records in my opinion.

Seconded on the Soul-Jazz tip. Daddy Kool has almost everything reggae you could wish for but for me it's the most unpleasant shop in London and not cheap at all. I reluctantly bought there for years and they never got any friendlier. I'd say avoid at all costs. Yup, go to Berwick street in Soho and check out the shops along there and also try to make it over to Notting Hill for Honest Jon's - lots of nice stuff you won't find easily elsewhere but not that cheap. If you're around over the weekend Portobello market (Notting Hill again) has a few street sellers: the reggae guy near Honest Jon's often has nice pieces.
Two worthwhile record shops on the Essex Road in Islington (about a 10 minute Tube journey from the centre) are Haggle Vinyl (loony owner and huge stock with piles all over the floor - takes time) and Flashback (smaller selection but really nice, knowledgable staff and lots of interesting pieces). Disque, five minutes walk away on Chapel Market in Islington is also great for reissues, 12s, and new stuff. Possibly the nicest staff in London and their recommendations are always spot on. And there's a great pool bar opposite called the Elbow Room.
Basically, London's best for reggae and for, erm, British music that wouldn't necessarily see the light of day overseas. For US soul and funk probably save your pennies and buy at home. Geneva, I seem to remember, has a couple of places with absolutely insane music but you'd need to be a Swiss banker to afford most of the records. Hmm, maybe you are a Swiss Banker...
Thats the spot I went to. They had a lot of really good stuff.
