    For squelchy/fat analog bass sounds via hardware, I really dig my MicroconII (REAL analog synth that's the size of a VHS cassette)



    ...and, as far as VST's are concerned, the Mercury-1 is my favorite go-to, all purpose monosynth.

    for bass you really need a synth module.. get a microkorg or a cheap roland..

    i can't make no bass on a vst. sounds like (b)ass as oppossed to BASS

    you can try Novation plugs, they're not disappointing...Arturia is actually nice too. But nothing beat a SE-1.
