TALK ABOUT RECORD PORN--WELL THIS ONE IS--this one is from a lady going under the name Honeysuckle Divine. The other side is titled "o come all ye faithful". as you can see, it's autographed by her and dated "philadelphia april, 1978". a little late/early for christmas, you ask? well i put it on and didn't have any idea what i was going to hear was what i was going to hear. she does her renditions of these holiday faves--but she does it in a very sleazy manner. sounding like a cross between yoko ono and serge gainsbourg/jane birken's "je t'aime mon non plus" with moaning and an all together weird and sleazy demeanor!!!
i can't find any info on this release--but the story gets weirder from here.. she was a 70s porno star/new york city times square stripper. apparently not just any porno star (would a typical porn star do christmas songs???) she was secretly a NUN. yes..a nun! once the church got word of her doing stripping/porn movies, she was booted. she ended up going to a insane asylum and then worked her way back to devoting herself to being a nun. though i am not sure of what became of her since. there is one more story i have to tell...in just a bit!
ok--this one i got from an old polish (or russian--not sure) couple for 35 cents at the flea market. some of the lps and 10"s shown above i found from them as well--
i can't read russian, but want you to know that that is the cover. it folds out into a little booklet. but it included these little singles in it---
they are one-sided (the photo above is the blank side with label information).
they measure less than 4 inches! (3 3/4"). really weird and i've never seen anything like it. they are from 1958 and are symphony/orchestra classical music. not my usual tastes--but it was just really incredible looking. i started looking at the russian alphabet to try and make sense of it. i will probably throw that up on ebay once i find more info about it.
oh--and weirdest moment of the day. lady in her 30s that had all the new wave/college rock lps for sale at the flea--well, when i was looking at the records (first thing i look for at flea markets)--another lady bought a film reel (not sure if it was 16mm or 35 mm) of andy warhol's "trash"--for a dollar! you can imagine the look of devotron when he overheard the transaction hapening right next to him! my goodness--if only i had got there like a minute or two earlier!
at least the lady got my number and she is going to let me look at the rest of her record collection!
Tom I have the ASR manuals, you can take 'em down to kinkos if you want. There's gotta be PDFs online though. Do a google search, I've def found stuff before.
Big come up this week. Nothing over $1.99. I got this store on lock.
And
and
Also any one got the OG pressing of this??? Trying to find out if my shit is legit or a repress..
But the real come up is on that Belt Buckle Strut..
Real world moves from 1978
Came up on this shit called a Toogle. Saw one in a junk box and the lady had no idea what is used for. So I will explain for peeps. Its for women to hang there purses on and shit so they don???t have to put them on the ground in restaurants and what have you. Shit is really real. They cost about 10 bucks but I gots mine for cheap.
anyone got a PDF of the manual for this thing. I want to use the effects. I heard they're really dope.
The effects are based on the algorithms in the classic Ensoniq FX modules DP2/DP4 . The phaser is notorious. The wah+distortion is ill for that muffled filter sound. Q-Bert and Mixmaster Mike's drums would never sound as nasty as they do without the comp'ed distortion effect (#11 as far as I remember). Put any drums through #11 and they go BOOOOOOMBOOOOOOMCLAPPPBOOOMCLAPPP!! The really great thing is you can resample through the FX and capture that one-time dope parameter setting and preserve bus lines for other things while broadening your palette of sounds.
Ahh, I'm getting all nostalgic now. I just sold mine this April. My first sampler, bought in '95. Hadn't used it since 2001, so it had to go to save some space. The workstation is too bulky if you just use it as a motherkeyboard, like I did the last few years. I'd like to get my hands on a cheap rack model, though. It has a unique sound and feel.

that's a dope album, good find.
Brought these home:
Geto Boys "Uncut Dope" 12" w/"Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta" D.J. Polo & Kool G. Rap "It's A Demo" 12" Keith Tippett Group "Dedicated To You, But You Weren't Listening" LP OG Vertigo
Nice score on the vinnegar! I like it (obviously) and bought a copy off a local friend of yours around the time it was re-released. "glass of water" is also a fave, although it's more sublime and less outright funky.
