touki bouki just got released on dvd. dope senegalese film about youth on the run from the law. kinda like badlands and most godard jammies but set in dakar. i highly recommend it.
I can't believe you saw that. Great it's out on DVD. I saw it on a preview tape because it played once at a local African cinema festival and I always thought it was very obscure. That's some recommendation!
I recommended it before and it's not new or something but if you can get The League of Gentlemen maybe you can try an episode. Dark, perverted British comedy with the looks of seventies horror cinema.
I work at an indy video store/record store and here are some of my sleeper movie recommendations:
All Akira Kurosawa movies City of God Pumpkin Hard Eight Theremin Documentary Hands on a Hard Body Documentary The Corporation Documentary Martin Scorses; Blues documentary series Amores Perros Human Nature Bright Leaves documentary + others by Ross McElwee NC represent David Gordon Green Movies (George Washington, All the Real Girls, Undertow) NC also Tom Dowd Documentary Moog Documentary NC again Dear Jesse documentary NC Wattstax
These are just ones that may have fallen throuh the cracks
just watched after dark my sweet which is some neo noir. wasn't really feeling it but ebert put it in his great movies column so it might be to some people's taste.
here are some more movies i've seen recently that i recommend:
that obscure object of desire (comedy about dude and younger woman who repetedly rejects his sexual advances. done by buneul king of obsurd comedies) this man must die (very dark almost comedically dark revenge flick by chabrol who is my favorite new wave director) i'm not scared (movie about a kid that finds another kid chained up in a hole) assassination of richard nixon (sean penn looses his marbles) valentin (kid in argentina trying find parents) closer (love triangle shit) in the soup (low budget comedy about dude trying to make a movie)
also some of my favorites you may not have seen
ghost world chinatown matewan crumb network run lola run paths of glory barry lyndon sweet hereafter bullets over broadway
Saw this amazing docmentary recently called "Children Underground." It follows a crew of homeless kids that live on the streets in Romania. It is difficult to watch at times (very young kids living completely on their own, sniffing paint, fighting, etc.) but I could not turn away.
Highly recommended (and it is on Netflix, I believe)
The part where the doctor refuses to help the girl is horrible. I thought the doctor was going through a bit of a struggle - like maybe she wanted to help or felt that she should but felt it was futile and that she would have to answer to a larger system that felt street kids weren't worth it.

Damn, I can't front. Dude is a fine looking dude.
- too pretty.
have only seen him in amores perros - he was good.
have heard a lot of mixed reviews about this Tambien movie - did you like it?
Naw... it wasn't BAD. I just didn't really get into it.
And yeah, definitely too "pretty" but not bad looking, then again not "stunningly beautiful" like the fellas in your avatar.
oh gawd - so true! class onto themselves thank you very much!

Crazy twists and turns. Quite violent which I like but my girlie don't.
Teeth being pulled out with hammers violent.
