sly doc

i caught the new doc about Sly Stone yesterday. if you're a fan, it's well worth seeing.  loads of unreleased bits... like footage from their first run as a band.

still thinking about the picture as a whole.  feels like they had too much footage to work with - lots of talking heads who end up with a 5 second soundbite and then never re-appear.  an interesting thread around the burden of black genius.  but feels like this could have been a series (and i think he deserves the exapnded treatment).

  • I wanna see it, it seems like something more than the typical music doc of that era. And Sly's story is more than the typical music story of that era too.

  • I agree, it seems like there was so much material that the narrative could've benefited from a longer format. @Doodle Jump

It's playing at the Aero in Los Angeles the Saturday after next, so I'll check it out.
