Noticed there wasn't a thred about this drummer from Chicago. He's been putting out some great music for a few years now. I saw him play last night with an incredible quintet - it was the same players as below (pretty sure). It was stunning. I highly recommend you see them if you get the chance and you are into jazz. The keyboard guy (Greg Spero) was like a David Lynch movie when he went off.

    Yeah, he's been on the radar for a while now.  The real deal.  Not caught him live in the UK yet, hopefully there will be something outside of London that I can get to.

    I was watching something with Paul McCartney, which I assume he was talking about Ringo, and he said something that resonated with me; "a band is only as hip as their drummer." I've never heard about Makaya or these musicians before, but thanks for putting them on my radar.
