I need some new headphones but don't play out enough to justify spending a lot on them. What are the best bang for you buck headphone right now?

Anything Sony MDR has never disappointed me.  Check Ebay for something in the V series going for around 100.

I ended up buying a pair of Sony MDR-V55 for $29.99 (with free shipping) off ebay.

There are a few left if anyone else is still looking:

Score!  Thanks for the heads up, I ordered a set.  Ive had 2 pairs of those, and one pair of the 7000? series (the $300 ones, can't justify doing that again although they lasted almost 10 years).

Currently using these: https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-PRO5MK2CM-Stereo-Headphones/dp/B0046JS1HU and I hate them so much.

I would also invest in a pair of industry standard Sony MDR-7506's cans (blue label) made in Japan, or the red label V6's made in Thailand. I prefer the blues. You'll find numerous amusing net articles arguing the differences which trust me are minute. Buy whatever happen to be on sale. I got some backup reds last year on Amazon for $50
You can find them as low as $75 on Amazon hint *stick them in your cart and the prices will go up and down during the week

Yes, the MDR 7506's are a steal at $100. Anything less is gravy, but they are serious workhorses that will sound great and last year's if not abused. There is a reason they are studio and film industry standards...

The Sony MDR-V55 shipped a few days ago. The ear cup is smaller than I expected. It's hard to tell from the eBay photo anyway. They'll do for now but I wish that I had just spent more and got the Sony MDR-7506's.

The only real flaw in the Sony MDR 7506/V6's are that the ear pads will start to flake over time. You get these little black specs on your ears lol
Fortunately you can replace the ear pads with aftermarket ones pretty easily. Another place to find cheap Sonys is Craigslist. I remember finding one guy who must have worked in broadcasting who had like 10 pairs for sale for $20 a pop. I should have bought them all. The two pairs I bought looked unused. I'm using one of them right now. Bought them in 2006!
