Co-sign. I always like more abstract/psychedelic labels, although I agree the colors are pretty garish. The "truck" label just bores me, as does this one:
Which brings us to my entry for labels I hate to see cause they are ugly, regardless of content, seen here in the Westbound amalgam version, mid-70's 20th Century:
Although I do like the 60's 20th Century look:
And here's one more I really like:
Note the title - I have this one, and it's pretty good Super K/Bubblegum soul!
Even better are the Laurie promo labels:
I love the funky "advance release" text on each side...

and i thought it couldnt get much worse than the NORMAL 70's 20th century label (which i forgot to mention i can not STAND looking at...although i love that font.)
really, different background and maybe id like it. but that fade is just depressing and i cant even explain why..
never knew that crossover label even existed. you learn somethin' new every day i guess.
Even though most of this label's classic recordings were released with this label, what the hell is that? Looks like somebody's vomit in the river!
GOOD Westbound:
I always thought the truck was a nice touch.
I like it the other way around. The mind-melting always reminded me of Hazel in a freakout, and the sleeve is perfect. The truck reminded me of trucks. And the fact that the label had really slipped (IMO)
I agree with you that Westbound slipped during the "truck" years. What the hell did they have to show for themselves, "Devil's Gun?" I have two records with that design, and both are retreads from the "vomit" label (Funkadelic's Best Of The Early Years album, and the Detroit Emeralds'"Feel The Need" single, which is a 1977 remix of their 1972 song "Feel The Need In Me").
the late 70's atlantic 45 labels where it looks like the older ones but its not printed the same, has way more info, and uses helvetica for all the label info. mostly ABBA whenever i see these, and it bothers me.
I hate any label that's hard to read in the dark. I almost lose it. What side is what goddammmit!!!
I hear ya...a while back Luck came to my dj gig and asked for "Four Corners" by Lee Dorsey on the Amy label (a very dull shade of blue)...I brought it, but it took a while to find, thanks to that undistinguished label design!

yeah, all those mala/amy labels are impossible to read....
oh man, HUGE pet peeve: running into a box of 45s that are all those 50s style labels, dark green, maroon, usually really dull silver printing and usually mostly RCA Victor....i dont even look for a second, i just pass right by.

Same with the later Atlantic. I've also had a distaste for the CBS fade. Not this one, which I LOVE:

So butt ugly! What are they thinking? Nik Weston seems to be quite a maniac because he puts his name on every single release. Despite the great music I wont buy their releases anymore.

Web-urls should not be on record labels, especially not on reissues. Does anyone know "Nik Weston" personally? Does he have some kind of mental disorder like narcissism or a inferiority complex or is he a maniac extrovert?

Not as bad, but also quite ugly:
The design on these 45s are dreadful.
I think I have 2 from the series.
