finding the perfect home stereo setup

Dear Strut,
so finally the family situation allows me to have a proper setup in the main room, 2 tech 12s, rane mixer and a cd players too celebrates the good ol??days. Speakers and amplifier are huge and outdated, plus the Ipad/Iphone connection is more of a freestyle thingy. and I am not satisfied with the sound.
So what is the setup 2014/15? hows your setup if you don??t have too much time to practice quickmixes and rather find yourself browsing the webs holding a tumbler of high quality booze and listening some raers or checking nu stuff?
The appartment/flat doesn??t allow too big soundsystems so I??m looking for some clever stuff.
