I thought I was going for 2048 points, got to 2200 on my first game and was like BOOM SOLVED IT. Then read I'm trying for 2048 tile? No way. Now that I'm trying, I'm failing miserably.
Got it.
My strategy was to keep the highest number tile in the lower right corner and move the tiles down or right as much as possible so the high numbers kept piling up. A few times I got in jams and had to move in another direction to get myself unstuck, but it basically worked (not every time, it took three tries)

same here. just when I was getting over my Candy Crush addiction I took a hit of 2048....
I watched a stream of some professional Tetris gamer playing the hexagonal version, the speed with which he sorted the pieces was pretty mind blowing. Maybe there's some kind of algorithmic set moves you can do for the basic clearing, but the pieces moved so fast you could hardly see what they were. The speed that a pro gamers mind works at is scary.

I stopped. It wasn't fun. Until the Numberwang one (on your list too!)
Too hard! Although that's what I said about Flappy Bird until I learned to become one with that bird and then we flew together. I can't forge the same connection with these blocks.

If you are super rigid about the lower right or left thing, it gets way easier. Once you start shuttling your main block around, it's over fast.
Yer, keep your highest block in the bottom right corner then try and get the above column to decrease in size, so it would begin 16, 8, 4, 2 and so on. Then you can collapse then down onto the bottom block and repeate. Always try and keep 4 blocks in the righthand column so you're not jumping your highest block about. Try to only move down and right, only move up when forced too and move back down immediately. Never move left if you can.

I tried using a similar strategy to my strategy in the threes game and got to the 1024 tile, but fell just short of the 2048

Baby steps.
Did you beat it? I got as far as one 1024 tile and a 512. As you can tell, I had a productive weekend.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I don't look at the tiles, I am just trying to figure out a series of repetitive moves that will chunk them around until I have a 1024.

beated it. It was only a matter of time once I got those repetitive finger motions going.
I can move on with my life now.
Here's a bunch of variants for anyone interested - http://phenomist.wordpress.com/2048-variants/

you don't have to count, and it involves pizza!
