So a Dutch company has thousands of volunteers competing to travel (on a one way ticket, no return ever) to Mars to start the first off earth colony and are intending to fund the whole shebang with
A) A reality Tv 'Mars in your eyes' sorta of competition to be one of the first four 'Winners' to go to the red planet
B) A Big Brother style live broadcast beamed back to earth from the colony, for the rest of its existence
C) and of course a fundit campaign which has rewards such as Mars orbit selfie (25$)
A short video application of each of the potential space travelers is already online https://applicants.mars-one.com/ and i can now safely say that the future is way more fucked up then even Philip K Dick could have imagined
