Ha! I'm pissed they never released Mclusky Do Dallas on vinyl.

I will also accept a list of your top 50 rackords or vynils.

Did this quick, so surely I'm missing things. I stuck to one album per artist...

I tried to include Kendrick Lamar's album, but I just had to replace it with:

    The Replacements.

A couple other albums from high school are sorely missing as well: The Cult - Love and TSOL - Change Today.

But whatever, I now gotta walk away from my list.

They're one of my favorite bands, but they never put out a seminal album, in my opinion. Folks touting Village Green are grasping at straws because they so desperately want there to be one "THE ALBUM" by the Kinks, but the truth is, I listen to the Ultimate Kinks Collection more often than any single album.

Surprised to see the Robert Cray's. I'm a fan from way back.
There is a Japanese P-Vine lp with nice early stuff and stuff with Floyd Dixon.
The Phone Booth album might be better than the 2 you listed.

Albert Collins has many lps better than Showdown. You might like the Imperial stuff.

Johnny Copeland also has nice stuff from before Showdown.

Here is one you might like by Frankie Lee from about the same time and groove as what you are listening to.

Showdown has a nice balance of different vocals and guitars. Its a group effort.

And its mid 80's past the older dudes "prime", so im sure both of them have better banger ALBNUMS.

I Don't know exactly what it is about Man-Child, but that is my favorite Herbie fusion era record. Headhunters was of course the first one i heard.

    Caught Up ??? Millie Jackson
Listened to this front to back when I was like 23 or 4, and thought "damn, that was a great album". I don't know where my copy went. Need to get that back

Brother, Brother, Brother - The Isley Brothers
Another good one front to back. I think it was Hcrink that hipped me to this one on one of the boards.

Pretty impressed, yall can come up with 50 or close to that though. I know I'm not the only one that was thinking about a "NOT SS 100, but in MY top 100 mindgarden". This is a great start.

Cray gets a bad rap for a number of reasons. One, his voice is smooth and soulful, not gruff and raw the way many people like their blues. Two, he rarely plays shuffles. Three, his seminal catalog is from the 80s, which means lots of compression and a production slickness. Four, ballads, lots of ballads.

Last time I saw him was a few years ago at the Waterfront Blues Festival. After days of flashy guitar players shredding he did a show closing set of nothing but ballads.
I saw him many, many times before he hit it big. Down and dirty in smokey clubs, but still no shuffles.
He is a great, understated guitarist, I have seen him play behind John Lee Hooker, Jr Wells and Buddy Guy and many others.

I understand why people think he is blues lite, but they are wrong.
Here is an example of why so many people hate him, and why I think he is great.

  • in no particular order:

    1. Wolfgang Dauner???s Et Cetera ??? ???Live???
    2. Allen Toussaint ??? ???Southern Nights???
    3. Bill Withers: ???+Justments???
    4. Steve Kuhn - "S/T" on Cobblestone
    5. Jorge Ben ??? ???Africa-Brasil???
    6. Earth Wind and Fire ??? ???S/T???
    7. Brian Auger ??? ???Second Wind???: although this album has numerous and serious deficiencies (like god awful lyrics and questionable lead guitar work) I love it anyways. robbie mcintosh murders the drum kit.
    8. Sonic Youth ??? ???Sister???: but Daydream is a close second.
    9. Steely Dan ???Gaucho???:
    10. Embryo: ???Rocksession???
    11. Freddie Hubbard ??? ???Red Clay???: although First Light follows not that far behind). So what if it is CTI.
    12. Steel Pulse ??????True Democracy???
    13. Michael Franks ???the Art of Tea???
    14. Sly Stone ???Fresh: this was discussed recently and I decided to revisit. It edges out ???Riot??? for me based on the production and drums alone.
    15. Max Roach - "Members Don't Git Weary"
    16. Pat Martino ??? ???Desperado???: my favourite prestige record and pat is in his toppest form
    17. McDonald and Giles
    18. Bob Seger ??? ???Ramblin Gamblin Man???: It took a lot of prodding by fellow strutteurs to get me to even Czech this out. I just thought of him as being the dude who sang the refrain ???like a rock??? in those older ford ads. I now make it a habit of picking up a copy every time I come across a cheap one just so I can give it to friends.
    19. Lenny Breau and Chet Atkins- ???Standard Brands???
    20. Cortijo and His Time Machine ??? Strutteur recommended and hooked this up some years ago and I just love the bugged out, electronic vibe. Sui Generis.
    21. Isley Brothers ??? ???Go for Your Guns???
    22. Fugazi ??? ???Repeater???
    23. Bemibem
    24. Sergio Mendes ??? ???Stillness???
    25. Bruce Cockburn ??? ???Humans???: the best of his 80???s travelogue, inner city Toronto sound. If you don???t know this record, pick it up for a dollar or two.
    26. Gil Scott-Heron ??? ???Real Eyes???, but I dig everything from his Arista period. ???combinations??? is my favourite GSH track, I think.
    27. Minnie Ripperton ??? ???Adventures in Paradise???
    28. Oliver Nelson ??? ???Stolen Moments???
    29. Johnny Hammond ??? ???Gears???: was trying to think of my favourite mizell bros record and this might be it. I know it???s another WoF 95 pick but hey, I???m a little dude.
    30. Jeff Beck ??? ???Blow by Blow???
    31. Ahmad Jamal ??? ???The Awakening??? or ???Jamal Plays Jamal???
    32. Mandrill ??? ???Just Outside of Town???
    33. Leon Thomas ??? ???Blues and the Soulful Truth???. Is it racist to love a ???China Doll????
    34. Frank Foster ??? ???The Loud Minority???: my favourite Mainstream release.
    35. Joni Mitchell- ???Heijra???
    36. Talking Heads ??? ???Remain in Light???: not sure how this missed the soulstrut 100.
    37. Parliament ??? ???Funkentelechy???: edges out ???Mothership Connection??? by a nose (d???void of funk)
    38. Catalyst ??? ???Perception??? ??? although I think all of their albums are worth seeking out, there is something even extra special about this one, it may be the addition of doc pat Gleeson (who does a much better job than he did on those herbie albums)
    39. Fela ??? ???Shakara???
    40. Curtis Mayfield ??? ???Back to the World???
    41. Leonard Cohen: ???I???m You???re Man???
    42. .Piano Choir ??? ???Handscapes 2???: I enjoy ???summit??? or ???conclave??? jazz albums but instead of being a cutting contest, these dudes really listening to each other closely and playing real real nice. check out ???power of a smile??? or ???Barbara ann???. too bad the first volume was recorded so poorly.
    43. John Coltrane ??? ???Coltrane??? (the blue one on impulse): I like all his stuff until the mid to late 60???s free period but this is the one for me. ???Soul Eyes??? was a gateway drug.
    44. James Brown ??? ???Payback???
    45. Annette Peacock ??? ???Perfect Release???: another mindgarten pick
    46. Jimi Hendrix ??? ???Band of Gypsies???
    47. Stooges- ???Fun House???
    48. Marvin Gaye ??? ???What???s Going on???
    49. Sade- Love Deluxe
    50. Eddie Harris ??? Silver Cycles

Bad Influence from 1983. (think you will like more than False Accusations.)
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark 1988. (This is slicker, more soulful, Memphis Horns, think it will work for you too.)

Both should be easy to find on vinyl.

The next one was Midnight Stroll, not as good, then I stopped paying close attention as there was no more vinyl.

The 2 earliest ones, Who's Been Talking (Tomato) and LA Blues All Night Long (Japanese only) may be bluesier than what you are looking for.
