Enki: Do you have the hard drive chained through the mbox? Or directly to the computer? Have you tried a different fire wire cable? Is it a 400? Is it powered by the cable? If so try a power adapter.
Hard drive goes directly into the computer and has its own power supply. I disconnected it yesterday, and the noise was still there. One thing I noticed, though, is that the one thing that makes the noise go away is disconnecting the speaker cable from the Mbox. That's a little different from how it was at first--used to be there was no noise until I turned on the Mbox, but yesterday, I hadn't even turned on the Mbox, and the noise was there. I pulled out the speaker cable, and no more noise. So maybe it really is the speaker cable?
The other thought that occurred to me is that the cable for the noisy monitor goes past (behind) my computer; the cable for my non-noisy monitor goes past a whole lot of other cables, but not the computer itself. So maybe the cable is picking up noise from my computer's internal hard drive?
Everybody's studios look so neat & tidy & clean, gonna have to post some pics of my place for a bit of contrast

Hey Mickalphabet,
That is soooooo untrue of my studio space. I have unsorted records from purchases and mixes all over the floor. I've been too lazy to sort it out, despite my wife getting at me about it over and over again. I guess I'll do so before the next NJ/NY/PA spin party we are planning for April 2014.
Peace,
Big Stacks from Kakalak

I just finished this video of me doing a bunch of tracking in my space. New song written on new years day. Recording audio and video at the same time was hard..
Amps and reverb in the same place I keep my socks.
Nice work, Beatsoup!!! "One man band plays all alone...he plays, to a song of his own..."

I'm now 90% sure the noise is coming from my computer's processor and/or internal hard drive. I even bought a new TRS-to-XLR cable, thinking that maybe the shielding on my old one was faulty, and the noise is still there. Unfortunately, the cable has to pass by (behind) my computer. Is there any way to kill the noise? Or is this just an annoyance I'm going to have to live with?

I know nothing when it comes to gear but man, this is gorgeous. So glad I clicked on this thread. Is this song available for purchase??

Thanks man! Right now it is just on youtube, I'm working on another album so writing lots of new material. I like the song too, I might tinker with it a bit and hopefully release it. Here's my first album I put out over a year ago, you might like that too same style. http://henkel.bandcamp.com/
I just got that Maestro G-2, and I've never been happier with a piece of gear. that direct-in fuzz is something no amp can create.
Sweet, that thing is greatness. It's amazing on guitars I've also had some fun with old transistor style electric pianos and synths. The fuzz + wow + trem together kills it. I've heard talk that the fuzz built into this is a Maestro FZ1 fuzz tone, aka fuzz used on satisfaction .

That's a beautiful space you've got there, utters. Blofeld cat-stroking vibes.
Yeah totally. Smoking Jackets optional. I didn't build it, I just have my gear and furniture in there. And records...
No doubt I will be able to wangle free time there as the need arises.
Thank you Mr Stacks.
Utters your studio looks great, I'd want hang out in there with a glass of scotch.
