Can I ask a serious question? I've been aware of the hype around Burial for a minute now, but I am NOT hearing anything good from the bits and pieces I've listened to. Can someone tell me what the best stuff to check out is? Maybe it's not my thing, or maybe I just need to listen to the right stuff.
From the perspective of someone who doesn't listen to a lot of this kind of thing, the second side of Untrue is pretty accessible and probably the only thing of Burial's I've liked. I haven't listened to the new album.
Oddly enough, I'm feeling this a lot even after trying and failing to get into Untrue - just gave it maybe the 10th listen since its release and it didn't take, puzzlingly. I listened to one of his other EPs once on Spotify but that's all I've heard from dude.
I love each of the tracks on Rival Dealer but I can even preface that by saying I still don't quite understand the hype. Pitchfork et al seemed to scoff at some of the like AOR drum & bass releases throughout the aughts and this EP doesn't seem that much different - decent electronic with a grounding in UK bass, garage, D&B, etc.
One more thing - there's like this warped computer voice sample in "Come Down to Us" that is so dope.

Apart from anything else, I give him props for making the Ashley's Roachclip break sound fresh for the first time in about 25 years.
(One Tree Hill theme dude, though)
But like, less interesting.
Really, folks are flipping over this?
Someone is
Cheers
Something like this:
or Homeless which comes a couple of tracks later.
