My sons are 10 and 3. I can feel the telly crying as it renders The Smurfs.

    Even Sophia Viagra.

I must have seen Wreck It Ralph 100+ times. It's script has become currency for us.

DM2 is right up there with The Incredibles, Groundhog Day and The Red Balloon IMHO.

And Kes and og Wicker Man, natch. And Kwaidan.

I'd forgotten they'd try to remake this. I never want to see it and it probably shouldn't exist at all. Speaking of The Wicker Man, I just saw Nicholas Roeg's 'Don't Look Now' at the weekend. It's got the same kind of creepy vibe and it definitely sticks with you like The Wicker Man, Rosemary's Baby, Suspiria, etc. Thank you Skel you've inspired me to re-watch The Wicker Man which I'll get round to in the next couple of days... Kes just makes me think of Bo Selecta...

Update: I might just hold on for a couple of weeks until this is out... http://www.movieweb.com/news/the-wicker-man-the-final-cut-trailer

Kes is well sad. In my windows of opportunity for watching movies, I don't want nay effer putting my sunbed in the shade, no siree. Good turn from Brian Glover as the PE teacher, doe. Professional Northerner ('Merimen: He's the bloke in "American Werewolf" from The Slaughtered Lamb who tells them to keep off the moors.)

Junior put me onto "A Prophet" last year and that was strong. Like an opiate Scarface in French. It's OK, they do the words on the bottom si vouz no parlez.

That would be my overriding memory of it alright.

We don't have moors where I'm from (are bogs similar?) but if cinema/folklore has taught me anything I'd be advised to take heed and stay off of them. Is there any other Moors related films? Any Moors I should consider visiting?

Naturally, avoid the ones from which howls eminate.

    I'd avoid Saddleworth Moor. Serial-killer-R.

Moor-R viewing : Harry Potter (filmed there), Heartbeat, All Creatures Great and Small (IIRC).

Get the pronunciation down first - "Yokshah moo-wuzz".

    As in "Sithee yon moo-wuh?"

Was in Dearne Valley last week and yes that accent is just as strong and the ladies are all the better for it.

Since we're UKing it up here, how Welsh is Wales lately? I went in the 1990s and it seemed like everyone was speaking Welsh on the street. The same still? Different? Welsh angst about being a member of the UK?
Inquiring heads would like to know the transaction....

The Pembrokeshire Coast is a place of stunning beauty, somewhere we try to get to annually. They speak Welsh of course, but they all speak English too. No angst encountered. Lot more surfers these days too. The cities are just like any other UK cities in my experience. Probably worse off for all-day pubs and strewn with detritus from the Clown, the Colonel and the King.

    Neil-S to speak on it?

    All movies I love.

And yes, the remake has Nicholas Cage in it. Enough said.

Don't Look Now is taken from a Daphne DuMaurier short story by the same name. It is a terrific read...the whole book is actually worth picking up.

I haven't actually watched the remake of Wicker Man, but I enjoy this line from it:

it always brings a smile to my face because it reminds me of this line:

maybe this should be in the eyes mix thread.

    123 go
    I've got an ego
    Won't let me go
    What'm I gonna do?
    ABCD
    Paranoia's killing me
    Dying on my aching feet
    What a way to go
    Roll up, roll up
    People always stroll up
Say why don't you grow up?
    No thank you
    Big cats, small cats
    Some cats are fat cats
    Those cats are bad cats
    What we gonna do?

    Go

I was there in the back stage
    When this light came around
I grew up like a changeling
To win the first time around

I can see all the weakness
I can pick all the faults
Well, I concede all the faith tests
Just to stick in your throats

    31G, 31G, 31G

    Hung around in your soundtrack
To mirror all that you've done
To find the right side of reason
To kill the three lies for one

I can see all the cold facts
I can see through your eyes
All this talk made no contact
No matter how hard we tried

    31G, 31G, 31G

I can still hear the footsteps
    I can see only walls
    I slid into your man-traps
    With no hearin' at all

    I just see contradiction
Had to give up the fight
Just to live in the past tense
To make believe you were right

    31G, 31G, 31G

I'd nearly forgive him for Raising Arizona and Adaptation...

I also saw Ken Russell 'The Devils' recently. Phenomenal stuff...

    Yup. Oliver Reed...wow.

A bit different from these other films, but as far as movies that leave a lasting impression, The Damned and 1900 are up there for me. Not so much creepy thriller situations as vile soap operatic elegance. It is melodrama, so you'll have to forgive the cheese now and then.

Just to claify... I googled The Damned. There's two films one from 63 (starring Reed) and another from 69. They both look pretty good. Which one were you referring to?

Funny coincidence about Reed - I meant the 1969 Visconti title.
