The jackin for beats thraed got me wondering??? has a rapper or rap group ever done a straight up cover of another rap song? Seems like covers are common place in almost every other genre. Is the idea of a straight rap cover too meta?

Priority put out a rap covers album at the end of the 90s which had some good moments. I don't remember what it was called, though.
:-S
that whole album In Tha Beginning...
And this, while not a true cover, is my favorite reworking ever...
and also Low Profile - Pay Ya Dues its word for word as well...pretty friggin dope.
The White Mandingos cover Minor Threat's "Guilty Of Being White" on their debut album, though I guess it's not technically a rap album.
..
Wasn't Rappers Delight a cover version of an old Grandmaster Caz/Cold Crush song?
Does Big Pun/Fat Joe's 'version' of Deep Cover count as a (deep) cover?
This is a project I've been working on. I drop a track 1st Friday every month. (September-June) It's called "Revisionist History". Not really covers, but taking the same sample sources, flipping them and paying homage to the original.
In September I'm starting off Vol. 2 with "The Symphony."
No, Hank just jacked his lyrics from a book. There was no routine, performance or song to deem that bite as a straight cover.
Wonder Mike & Master Gee werent using Caz shit.
dude it was a joke ;)
