I've put records in between my vcr and tv, and it works....sort of.

let it cool for a while. and don't bring into a well AC'd house straight from the heat... you risk warping it again.

As far as the glass, as long as you are using the sun to unwarp, the glass plates should be 1/4" thick. And make sure it is tempered glass.

yep. And then to a cooler spot, and so forth. As long as the record doesn't go from 1 temperature extreme to another, it should be ok.

I tried it on some vinyl and the warp became less, but it made the groove irregular, which is worst than a straight warp (in that case anyway).

Someone also told me you should put the record in the inner sleeve (the ones that have a circle cut out where the labels are) because the vinyl can be thicker in the middle of the record (as you all know ).

I saw Crumb use this technique in the Crumb documentary. I wondered if it works for 78's only.

i never used the in the sun method. always in the oven.

preheat oven to 150 degrees

put in record incased in glass for ten minutes.

turn off oven.

remove taking care to not separate glass.

put on flat surface to allow cooling for an hour. stack heavy books on top.

if record is not warped repeat sequence above three times. if that does not work. forget about it.

besure your oven does not get too hot you should be able to touch the glass at all times with you bare hands. if it gets too hot you will ovalize the record.

practice with two or three records you don't care about.

thickness is a factor. ex. dynaflex=less time in oven.

I have tried unwarping by all of the methods mentioned above and none were sucessful. The common problem is that the grooves will be straight instead of rounded and it plays all jacked up. Good luck!

I've got two sheets of glass & I'm gonna leave them out in the sun with a record between them. maybe some bricks holding down the corners.
