    Wait...what are yall talking about?

EDIT: OK, I'm seeing it now. I dunno about this one. No major news is picking it up and the time stamps in the videos are all over the place.

    Shit is most definitely real.

Slight delay for the sonic boom.

(4:40 for the flash and 7:00 for the boom)

Phil Plait is my go to guy when it comes to anything cosmos related.

Here is his blog. Second entry from the top (as of this posting) covers what he knows about this event.

    http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy.html

If you are interested in getting legit details from someone who knows what they are talking about, I'd suggest checking that link throughout the day.

    Yes!

  • The sonic boom came about 4 minutes behind the meteor...

Can anyone calculate how fast that thing was travelling?

  • this is what i have read about the speed of it...

at approximately 09:15 local time (03:15 UTC),[ a fireball streaked across the sky at a speed of at least 54,000 km/h and shattered over the city of Chelyabinsk. The main object seems to have hit Lake Chebarkul. The Russian Academy of Sciences estimated that the meteor weighed 10 tons and the mid-air blast occurred at an altitude between 30???50 kilometres above the ground.

    33,000mph apparently

That depends where you were. Sound travels about 12.3 miles/minute. If you were right under it, the delay would about 30-60 seconds depending on what estimate is correct.

It's a pretty remote area, I don't know if anybody was that close.
