My wife is headed to D.C. next week. Since I have never been burned from the Strut's food recommendations, I figured y'all would deliver the goods again. I checked the city guide, only an ice cream shop listed. So where in the Dupont Circle area (no car, and not a lot of free time to spend on commutes) should one go for food? Thank ya...

  • Most of the cheap eats are in the bordering suburbs...but there is a lot of good food to be had in DC

    on 14th St, I like:
    Bar Pilar
stick to the small plates -- great cocktails too

    Cork
Similar food to Bar Pilar, but is also a wine bar.

    Birch and Barley
It's a little pricey, but there is a bar upstairs (Church Key) with a limited (cheaper) menu. Beer list is one of the best in the country

    On 17th St:
    Little Serow
$45 fixed menu Thai food -- By far the best Thai food I have had outside of Thailand
    http://littleserow.com/menu.html

    Sushi Taro
    Great Japanese

    On 18th St
    Sakuramen
Not mind blowing, but solid ramen -- get the spicy miso

And if she hasn't had it before, she has to try Ethiopian food while she is here. I like Dukem on U St or Etete on 9th St.

  • I work in dupont circle.

    Bread & Brew

    Kramer's

    Bethesda Bagels

    Pizza Paradiso

    DC Cafe

    Lucky Bar

All places I fusks with on a regular basis [walking]. each fitting for different degrees in life.

Not close to dupont, but I recommend the pork belly taco at Oyamel. worth the trip.
i second dukem too. that's a pretty uniquely DC dining experience

Meistro's right tho, the best and most reasonably priced food is in the suburbs.

I used to hit up Vace's on Connecticut Ave for pizza, close to the zoo.

if you end up wanting to ride the metro, I highly recommend Chrisfield's out on Georgia Ave in Silver Spring. DC has some nice places to eat but Maryland seafood is the only authentic food that area has to offer.

  • She appreciates all the suggestions, she says "thanks!"

She took one look at the Ramen spot's menu and said she might just eat lunch everyday there (we have no ramen spots in memphis)...her hotel is just down the street.

again thanks for the responses y'all.

I assume by "authentic" you mean food that is native to the region??

yeah, that's what I meant. Food you won't find anywhere else.

    yes vace's
    but
    why not head east,
18th street & columbia are not far & even though it has changed you still have some decent stuff
    around there

my fave is the salvadorian institution El Tamarindo on 18th & U st,
ethiopian spots are still within a block or 2 of there on 18th
Henry's for the dc soul fool carry out is on U a block further east

adams morgan should be cheaper than CT Ave/Dupoint Circle and has more diversity / less chain-food

over on 14th st things are really poppin

    Yes!

  • I always preferred Super Taco to Mixtec (down the street). Bangin huaraches, tlacoyos, tortas, and tacos.

And maybe the very best website of all time.

Just be sure to have your volume up

    that looks cool
i don't think that was around back when i was living there,

  • Not sure when it opened, but it used to be called Pepitos.

If she likes Ramen, there's a new Korean Noodle spot that just opened in Adams Morgan that was pretty decent , but I only went once. That place on H steet with the skate-inspired interior is way over rated.

I live across the alley and smash at least once a week. can't enough.

Cheap and just as good as the Euroman falafel spots across the pond, "boss." Salat bar on par.

Buuuuuuut, Astor around the block does their own thing with the falafel. Crazy spices.

Haha! I used to live across the street from the Astor. Used to house a gyro for a hangover remedy. Needless to say, I ate about 100,000 gyros.
