Not a second line beat per se (there's no tuba bassline driving it), but what I would call a second line rap.
And aside from dudes rapping on Soul Rebels albums and whatnot, there's really not many real rap songs that have those in 'em...Walk the Line by Fiend being the standard to date.
Hit Me sounds like it could have been recorded at the Hi-Ho or Vaughn's in New Orleans.
....but I mean, yeah, its pretty much a throwback record. Dunno, it will need a crazy video if this is what they are running with.
Its not exactly what I would have liked to hear from dude, but I can get down with it. If nothing else, it makes you notice like "damn, dude is talented".
...On second listen, this could probably work for him. I'd rather not see him go down the cee-lo big band retro route, but its probably pretty smart.
